Really had a great time at The BIG Show, but it's good to be back home. I think my brain is just too filled with info. I wanted to bring home all the new toys!! I need some ideas please... It's a 4'x 8'to re-do. The original reads... Your One Stop Store The Corner Place Market and Gas Hunting and Fishing Licenses and Supplies West Rd and County Rd with an Arco logo and a phone number. I see way too many "and's" and the use of Rd in West "Rd" and County "Rd" just irritate me. I can pretty much change what I want to get the message out. "Gas"... I'm not sure I like that either... hummm? "Gasoline"...... I have three ways I've played around with this and I just can't seem to get rid of the "ands" and the "Rds"..... any ideas?

Pat, Keep your layout the same but add a red horizontal panel that would intersect with the left red vertical panel. Gallion's Corner is white and inside the red horizontal panel, possibly with an outline. This would create the graphic idea of a corner intersection. The address above the new panel is blue. I would avoid placing the new panel dead center horizontally. My choice would be above center. Good luck with this one. Tony

I took the information you supplied and kind of weeded through it and made a couple of slight changes.
I liked how you put the panel on the left. A panel is an excellent way to add lots of color to a layout. Strategic use of black outlines on panels will allow the outline of letters. Paneling of colors will allow you to complete the entire design in vinyl.
I took the "Your One Stop Store" and utilized a stop sign to emphasize the stop thought. Using the script on "your" and "store" lets us put these words in the layout while bringing more emphasis to "one stop", as well as tying them together to form their own thought. I took the "market" and "supplies", along with the license copy and put them on the same panel to re-enforce the "one stop" idea.
I dropped the word "gasoline" while keeping the ARCO logo because ARCO means gasoline. They sure don't sell root beer!
I made the name of the store in a bold display style to really give the name punch with the script giving some movement with the descriptive "corner". I put the fade on the name to give it some zip and coolness factor.
The names of the road were put on a panel to make them their own thought while the overlapping name ties the two together. The road panel overlapping the "one stop" panel ties the what and where together.
I can't really describe why I chose the colors other than I like them. I would try to steer the client away from the red and blue on white color scheme because it is so overused. A different color scheme will really set their sign apart from everyone else. If they really insisted, the color scheme could be adjusted accordingly, but not without a fight.... Hahahahahahaha!
So... Thanks for letting me play!
Have a great one!

Hey Dr Cas!! Whoa!! I just love it when you play! Everytime I see your work, it takes me a minimum of 8 minutes to get my chin back up into position and close my mouth! How DO you DO that? Hummmmm...... Continually Assessing Signs... Beautiful job Bruce. Thanks too for the explanation of why you did what.

Always good to see different takes on layouts. Lotsa copy on this one, and these kind of jobs give me the fits to get it all on there without jamming it in. Here's my take on your job Pat. Have a good week!

i could be missing something, but i think the ARCO could be a lot bigger and the phone number could be a lot smaller. its a billboard, and most people don't drive past a billboard and write down phone numbers, but they do recognize the ARCO logo and realize "that means gasoline".

Well ScooterX, you may be correct in strictly practical terms, but when two people can come up with such superb layouts from such an unpromising brief, I'm more than happy to see aesthetics take precedence over function.

I took Cheryl's comments about red, white, and blue and decided that maybe I could revamp my thinking a bit. I also took Scooter's comments and reworked that vein of the design, also.
Cheryl, thanks for making me rethink the color scheme. I think that red, white, and blue layout is make stronger by the colors. I just may have to reconsider my adament stand against this color scheme. Dang you, girl! LOL!
John "Bubba" Deaton... Nice job, dude! You have some very cool elements in your design that I just might have to creatively re-adapt in the future sometime. Kudos.
Have a great one!

You guys are sooooo awesome! I just love to see the same copy done by different creators. I think that really helps all of us to see how others view things and help us step out of our own box. The r,w & b sort of does look tired compared to the other two. You really have a good point there Bruce. This particular banner will be hung off of chain link at a little league park, so it will be seen by those in the stands. Sure has been fun! Thanks!
