What type of stain or paint is the best for the background (blasted away area) of a sandblasted cedar sign. I have great luck with SignLife, but they don't offer any solid colors. I need a white solid color product that will be durable & not bleed through. Solid color latex stain has the best color, but if the wood has any moisture you get some terrible looking stains. Maybe a bulletin enamel brushed in with no primer? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanx for the reply Randy. Would the finish color be a oil base? Have you had trouble with the latex primer staining through from moisture in the wood. I like to use the best wood I can buy,(clear kiln dried) but it is hard to come by. The appearance grade is so much cheaper & readily available, but it has a % of moisture in it that makes it hard to deal with.

Hiya Tom, At a previous shop, we used to tint SignLife with One Shot to achieve the background color we needed. we never used white tho. You may want to test first. Havin' fun, Checkers

Solid color stain will block the stains in one or two coats then follow with a third coat of either solid color stain or acrylic latex paint. You might want to prep the high tannin areas such as pitch pockets and knots with a blockout primer first.
