My New Year's resolution is to learn to pinstripe. After years of procrastination, I'm finally on my way and I'm having a ball.
So how do I learn? First step was to get reacquainted with all the books about stripping and purchase the ones I'm missing. Then I followed my own advice and made a list of PinHeads that are doing what I want to do and started to ask for their advise. That includes e-mail, phone calls and getting to a Pinhead Meet in Detroit this weekend.
I try to get in 2-3 hours of practise each day. It took ages to resist twirling the brush like we do in signpainting. The scrolling brush and outliners are starting to feel more comfy, but the sword stripper is still awkward. Hope to work on that at this weekend's meet.
Anyway...I've taken a couple of photos of where I am at this point in time. It will be interesting to look back at these in future months to see if I am progressing. Your constructive critism is more than welcome.
The first panel is an old piece of MDO I practise on and then clean off to use over and over again.
This is an old toilet seat I found. It had a few chips and stains, but it still made a great first project.

Hey Steve brilliant stuff I would love to have a go at this as well but I don't think anyone does it here in the UK, what books did you buy to learn this and if I post you my toilet seat can you do something for me. LOL

Looks GREAT Steve! Pinstriping is fun. Do you make sounds when you pull a line?
Hey! another question kind of on topic but kind of a pet peeve... is it "striping" or "stripping"?
I placed an ad for "pinstriping" once... the people at the newspaper either screwed it up or changed it on purpose to "pinstripping". I thought that stripping was what you did to remove old paint (and I don't mean Old Paint here at letterville) or something that young women did in a club. Then again, if I did strip, it just might remove Old Paint and everyone else here at Letterville.
What is correct?

I'd say you pretty much have the hang of it!! I think you missed your calling.
Post some pics after the meet this weekend, show us what ya learned!! I read in one of my books that it's a good idea to practice on an old car fender, hood or something. I guess it "feels" different in the way that it pulls on the brush??
Keep us posted on your progress.
