Going to try to post this. This is something else you can do with your scrap MDO.

Someone else who likes doing the antiqued signs too. Those look great. I've done a few and found the cheapest substrate is old pallets. Just go to Lowes, Home Depot, whatever and ask for their old pallets. Usually they have a stack sitting out back and are more than willing to let you have them. They're usually made of rough cut lumber and pretty beat up. I think it makes the antiqued signs more authentic.

great work jeff!

i attended a workshop in mazeppa, minnesota a few years back.

dennis gerathey (i hope i spelled dennis' last name right)gave a great workshop on the process of making antique signs.

dennis' work has also been featured in signcraft magazine.

i love them old signs!

I was fooling around with stuff like this for a long time... actually, my mother was into "antiquing" anything that did not move... furniture, woodwork, doors, etc.

I went to a meet at N. Glantz in Wauwatosa a few years ago and got there in the middle of Dennis Gerathy's presentation. Man, was I inspired.

First thing I did when I got home was start making these things. They're fun and pretty easy to do. Those shown in the picture are latex paint... very similar to the way Mark Fair made the Pharmacy sign. Best part of these is the "distressing" stage. Takes out a lot of frustrations!

What I tried to do is to create these in a way that is very simple with as few steps as possible and still give it some sort of classic old time look and feel.

Perhaps I'll try to put a step by step together for everyone.

Thanks for taking a look at them.
