Do any of these seem even remotely interesting? I feel so flat and uninspired here, rehashing the same tired old designs. I really feel stuck in rut.

Here's the second round - client wasn't impressed with the first.

Hey Dan,
I like the 2nd one of part two. I think the woodgrain panel is a little too busy, the blue panel keeps it nice and clean.Just an idea, how about going with a straight beveled letter. I mean without the color fade. The drop shadow is good, but with the bottom of the letters faded, you have contrdicting light sources it seems. Also, I liked the way G. C. looked in gold. It seems to compliment the blue. The design is a crisp, clean design and fits into the Summit area well. I think you're definitely on the right track.

Geez Dan,
What a rut yer in, can I get in that rut? I think they all look cool. My fav is the top of page 2. Don't really care for the yellow chisel effect on the others.
With the all caps layout there is a huge hole in the Y_T, almost want to read it as 2 words. Maybe push em together some?
Ya do great work, Dan.

I agree with Bill on this one. Top one on number two looks great. Maybe move the word PAYTAS down just a hair, as I'm seeing just a little of a gap there. I have to admit, I find it hard to critique a logo design by you Dan.

Dan,

I'm inspired! Great work!

Must be a difficult customer your working for because it seems like everyone here is happy!

What looks awkward to me is the negative space between the "YT" in PAYTAS. It almost looks like two words are represented.
It was one of those first impression things that goes away after getting the feel of the logo.

I wish I was in your rut also! hahahah

I agree about the space between the Y and T. You could move them closer and join the right fork of the Y and the left arm of the T together, which would also add a bit more character to the logo.. just a thought..

Dan,

I may just have my overall's on
inside-out, but here goes...

After we talked last night, I had a brain fart goin on. Couldn't figure out what was buggin me about this design.

I looked again today and when i saw the wood
grain panel, it was clear as mud...hehehe.

The pizza panel is pointed the wrong way to
fix that "david letterman thing" ya got goin between the "y" and the "t."

Also, the panel ya got the small copy in looks like a rollin pin. Us sign folk get
off on doo-diddies like that but the
customer, not educated in signs, is gonna be
the expert in his field...so we got some
'splainin to do.

When stuck like this, I try to do Amy's
trick, throw some equipment in there so even
a busy housewife, flyin by at 90 mph can
tell what it is. (Sometimes this makes a
difference.)

Was thinkin, eat the pizza, give the rollin
pin to yer wife, and pull out one of them
l-shaped measurin things that
contractors/builders use to make sure
things are squared away. Turn it (corner
up) to point to the business...and help that
word look like one word.

Another brain fart, use a graphic of a
level, you know with the yellow stuff
floatin in the little windows...you can use
the little yellow windows as bullets for
this guys phone number.

Wow...another brainfart...if he ain't got a
motto yet...how about...

"We're on the level!"

Phwahahahaha!

(ahem)

Or you can send me an email askin me to mind
my own business...hehehehe. I tend to be a
little out there when grabbin straws, and I
know, it sounds all corny, but how much ya
wanna bet the customer goes gaga? Something
about illustratin their tools, just blows
their skirts up...hehehehe!

If ya just have to go overboard with this
guy, tell him you can do some gold leaf
scroll work on the tools...hehehe!

Hate to see you squirm here, kinda like
watchin a parent get scared when yer real
little. Hope you come up with something
you're happy with.

Hi guys!

Thanks for all the good feedback.

The client loved the first design on #2 (a favorite here too!). He wants me to change the lettering on bottom to just say "Contracting", so I'm going to beef the panel up a bit. He did like the "rolling pin" too, but wasn't sure about the pizza pie. So he asked just to see maybe some scrollwork in that space, so I'm going to pop a few of MIke Jacksons ornament up there and see how it looks.

You guys are totally right about the Y and T hole in the design. Gonna tighten those two up a bit.

I guess feeling in a rut was my way of just being tired of not being able to break out the "box" for a bit. Sometimes I find when I do though, the client hates the design, and wants to see his stuff look like my other logos. When I design the corporate stuff, I seem to be able to break out more because you sometimes (believe it or not) have a little more freedom because the usage is so different.

On this design, by the way, I sold just the design for $200. He gets no artwork with it. If he wants it later on, he will be paying me another $200 to get the art and disk.

Thanks again Heads -
