I've always admired the reverse glass artists around the world and have dug up so many old pictures of store fronts with gilded windows and doors. Some of the business in the town I grew up in still have the gold leaf addresses above the door. So naturally I've been wanting to do this for a long time.
My father has a room of antiques and collectables from the turn of the century to the late 70's and has them set up like a very convincing general store (kinda like the one his father had in the 40's). Along with all that is a massive collection of taxidermied heads and animals (all legal) and old animal traps small to HUGE. When I was younger I hand painted a sign to go above the porch but he needed something a little more professional, so I did this for him.
It's not the best but he loved it. Propped it up in the living room and stared at it pretty much all day. Already picked out a place for it in his general store.
Most of the gilding is oil sized between cut vinyl (I know, I cheated) and the badge is my first, nearly, successful attempt and water gilding. It's all done in imitation gold, aluminum and copper. Took a while but it was all worth it.

A fine piece of work for the first attempt. Bill

Like Bill said, nice for your first. Just thinking it through and going for it is huge as most would shy away...Are you drilling hole to hang it with some brass hangers?

Thanks for the compliments. It took quite a bit of my free time to complete. Maybe a liite more than my girlfriend approved.
A way to hang it was an issue. Im no glazer so drilling my own holes was out and i was a little woried a glass shop would scratch the leaf so i bought some clear mirror clips and mounted it to the wood its resting against in the picture.

Next time be sure to drill holes First! Ask me how I know! It's worth trying, and it's cheap for the bits. Keep it wobeling the drill with water to cool it.
