Neil, In the old days they used an artist who painted them on canvas and glued them on the back of the glass with a varnish mixture. I used my Roland, because I had to align the painting within 0,5mm in the gilded outlines.

If my memory is correct, Erik has only been doing this type of work for about two years. Amazing!
Erik shows a lot of his work on the Hand Lettering Forum and is constantly searching for new (and old) methods of doing things. He's one of those sponges that just wants to absorb everything he can learn...and then he goes out and does it.
