Thanks, Raymond! the patterns are fairly traditional from gun engraving- I get all the books and reference material I can lay my hands on, and from there it's mix and match of what's gone before- and LOTS of practice drawing scrolls. Shading is a whole 'nother beast to conquer, but that makes the designs POP. These designs were drawn on the planes freehand. As for tools, I use gravers- 3/32 square lengths of steel in a holder- the face is sharpened at 45 degrees in a diamond shape- the long point is what does the cutting. "power" to driver the cutter comes from hand (push gravers), a very light hammer, or air assist (pneumatic). Did I mention LOTS of practice????? For links, try www.igraver.com/forum
