Here's a little one I finished a while back. 24"x28"x1 1/2", 15lb Duna, 2 sides. The oval is 9"x13". Everything is finished with acrylic latex. I'm not practiced at all in painting images with solid color paint so the fox painting is pretty elementary. [I Don t Know]

The fox took about 3 hrs to carve.

I like to paint a drop shadow on the lettering to help it pop a bit...

I think your worring to much Joe , it looks great and I love the drop shadow effect as it really fools the eye into thinking those are raised letters instead of insized. Another cool idea I must try thanks.

Nice clean job!
Joe, you can use the latex paints first. Just for blocking in the basic colors. Quick and very cheap.
Then use artists acrylics to create more transparent color for depth. Like a glaze.
I've done this a lot on wall murals too.

I've also put some shiney clear on the eyes and nose to make them look wet!
