Haven't done any "small" paintings for a while so I did one for my daughter this Christmas and thought I would share it here.
Monarch butterflies have a very special meaning to my daughter Jacque so I found one I liked and did an oil painting on canvas for her and plan on giving it to her for Christmas.
Don't tell here though, it's a surprise....
There is a bit of a glare in the center even though I didn't use a flash...the matt clear damar is a bit more glossy than I planned.

I'm sure she'll love it Dale! I'm painting a guitar for my daughter for christmas - That is, not a painting of a guitar, but a painted guitar. It'll be my first, but I've always wanted to try one.

Really nice...I always love nature themes...as a kid I was interested in butterflies and had a collection...if I remember correctly this would be a female as the male has a small elongated black spot along the third vien of the lower wing...there is a smaller species called the viceroy that mimics the monarch...the monarch is avoided by birds because of it's bitter taste...the vicroy...though "bird tasty"...is also avoided because of it's striking resemblance to the monarch...just stuff I remember as a kid...maybe Jacque will find this interesting as well.
