Here's what I am working on these days, should say the last 3 weeks, in beautiful Gatineau, home of René! I guess I've concentrated too much on the ornaments and did'nt realize there was 26 miles of pinstripes to do on this truck!! Well I am not really a pinstriper and if I am so my nickname would be "wipe off".
BTW Thanks to René for food and lodging while I,m working on the fire truck!! Will post more when it's all done.
...and there's another one to do right after this one!

That type of work is in a class of it's own.
And it definitely is the Upper class at that, it just blows my mind to see leaf work like that.

Pierre, you are in heaven and don't know it. It doesn't seem right that one guy should have so much fun, what a lucky talented guy. It really looks first class. Bill

If you are not a pinstriper now, Pierre, you will be by the time you are done with this job. That is so good it makes me green with envy! Love....Jill

Thanks very much!! Here's a close-up of the hood ornament, quite simple compare to the fender ones but the technique is the same. The shading is done with a mix of asphaltum and varnish on the brush, each on both side of the brush, then you palette until you get the right tone. What is important doing a restoration job like that is to do it period correct, using the same techniques. Now I'm working on a Sanford 1927, simplier gold ornaments without shading.

The owner of the truck took us for a ride yesterday. All 3 of us got dressed up with the fireman gear and helmets (easy ladies...) and went half way up town for an ice-cream waving goodbyes and ringing the bells. That was a cool break in the day....
Pierre has pics of this but I'm not sure if he'll want to post them!!!

Awesome! I have a client that is a retired fire chief and he buys and restores firetrucks. I have lettered two so far, but they are from the 60's or so. No wonderful scrolling. He has one in his garage tha tis waiting for more goodies, but could be years from now. He uses them only to ride in parades! amazing. All that money to toot your siren in a parade. He loves it though. If he ever gets to the next one, I might have to call you in for help, Pierre. What fun that would be.

Holy Smokes! So glad to see you kept it period correct. Not like I'm an expert. (I know what a firetruck is, that's about it! LOL!) But I do love those old trucks. Thanks for the close-ups. What a beautiful job!!!
