Here's something I did awhile back...initially I was asked to incorporate a green iguana and a red-eyed tree frog...the zoo was known for their work with these 2 animals...they wanted the animals floating in space flanking the lettering...I thought the idea could be improved on so I suggested to let me draw up a design incorporating them into a scene which they liked...the carving is about 7.5' wide and is mounted on cedar background with cedar framing on 6"x6" post...it is 2 layers of 1.5" redwood hand carved with some sandblasting...the grain in the background layer is oriented horizontally so I could sandblast in water and sky...the grain in the foreground layer is oriented vertically for sandblasting in hanging moss.

Beautiful work Rusty. I have a soft spot for anything that swims, slithers or crawls. Any reptile or amphibian would be proud of you.

Dale...when asked the question...how long did it take?...I really don't know...didn't keep up with the time...but the best analogy I can give is that had I spent as much time picking up cans on the side of the road I would have made more money...however...I never determine success of a project solely from a monetary point of view...for if I did I would cry alot...but when all was said and done...I kept the bills paid...and more importantly...I had the opportunity to create something I feel good about...and hopefully something zoo visitors will enjoy for years to come.
