My grandfather was a true blue watchmaker, meaning he could build a watch from scratch. He also owned a jewelry shop back in the day. He passed away about 10 years ago.
I recently checked a book out of the library called "Antique Advertising" by Rich Bertoia. It is full of old ads, signs, and packaging. Really nice stuff. One of the signs in the book was for a watch repair shop. So I thought I'd come up with my own.
I think I'm going to actually make this one as an anniversary gift for my mom, with a real clock, to hang in her rec room.
Any suggestions on the layout? The colors will be decided when I find out which will go better with her decor...

I like the blue. If it were me I would make Schols go straight across. JMO

It's nice and appealing, and I think your mother would be thrilled. But since you asked for critique...I suspect that you took a predesigned panel shape and made the design to fit it. My suggestion would be to draw a panel shape around the design. As it is, the curve in the lettering and the curve in the panel seem to work against each other. I like the font's you have chosen, and the blue version is my favorite.

There is only one thing that bothers me a bit. The watch looks too much like a schoolhouse clock. If you could make it look more like an old pocket watch complete with a stem at the top I think that would help.

We spell Jewellery a bit differently downunder,(an extra E & L).
What a nice idea for a project- I wish you well! I like both colour schemes.

Great suggestions Lotti. That shape was actually something I drew up in Corel. But I did draw it before I did the layout, rather than make the shape to fit the letters.
I appreciate the suggestions from this group of talent.

I would straighten out "Schohl's". The incline is creating awkward spacing with the arc of the lettering underneath it.
The idea of the stem on the watch face is an excellent idea.
I like the look. I like the colors.
