This is a project that I just recently completed as a gift for my mother for this Christmas. The artwork is actually being made into a woven blanket by the Wal-Mart Photo Centre and will be 60"x72".
The entire project was sketch painted on a Wacom Cintiq21 drawing tablet in photoshop using only a dark brown color for the four images.
After finding the reference pictures online I started out by freehand tracing a faint thin outline of each image much the same as I would have done by using a projector to trace onto drawing paper or any other type of substrate.
After that I freehand rendered each image separately using the original photo as an off to the side reference. Pretty much the same as I would be doing if it was being airbrush onto a metal panel or canvas.
The background and text was put together first in a vector program with each segment pasted into photoshop onto individual layers so as to be able to fine tune the positioning as I started to put everything together.
It was a fun project and hopefully the first of many as I keep practicing to perfect my skill level and knowledge in the art of digital painting.

Looks great. But it will never be as impressive as your traditional work ... there's no undo on that brush.
