This is a sample piece done for a glass company in Florida. Glue chip, three kinds of gold, and a smalted backboard.
Another sample for the same company, this was deep-blasted glass. The lettering has 12k and XX gold leaf, and the colors are artist oil colors, broken in 1-shot gold size to a translucent glaze, then backed with aluminum leaf. It is also mounted over a smalt backboard.

Few Questions. On the Deep blasted glass.. What thickness of glass did you start with.. I made the mistake of using 1/4" and blasted all the way through.. No big loss as it was a play piece anyway.
I am still learning the glue chip along with cerium carving (wish I had more time to work on those types of projects) I haven't tried gilding the chip yet are you using Gelatin/Water size or one of the standard sizes (LeFranc / Rolco / 1shot Fast

Bill, both pieces are 1/4" glass. The "deep" carving is probably no more than 1/16".
To get the brilliant depth on glue chip, it has to be water gilded or angel gilded; gilding chip with an oil size alone will leave it looking dull. I haven't tried angel gilding, but given that water gilding on chip is such a tedious time-suck, I'm going to have to try it. With water gilding it is impossible to get a full, solid gild - you cover all you can, then apply 1-shot fast size and gild again. That second gild will fill most of the holidays left in the chipped areas. On the border, after water gilding with white gold, I used aluminum leaf over 1shot fast, which worked well.
