heres another one, this one isnt even registered yet and the guy wants to repaint it. He just changed his mind again, not the first job he has done this to. It is all airbrushed and except for the lettering which is reflective but i did paint candy apple over the reflective.

heres another one for a mob in Melbourne , Victoria. I've done ten or so trucks for him so far. Again pretty much all made up on the run and mostly hand done/airbrushed. (i find it good practice as i'm still learning)
thats it for now, hope you enjoyed.
cheers! Rod

Rod; those are absolutely outstanding!!! Thanks for posting them. I can really appreciate the work that you would have put into those jobs. Love the bright colors, the cartoon murals of the trucks...everything!
Are you doing all the prep sanding and clear coating as well, or is someone else taking care of that part?

Another world class artist! Dang Rod, those are fantastic too! I love the cartoon work.

to answer a few questions: Allan: yes these are vertually all hand done in automotive base coats then cleared including lettering, butthe purple truck with the aussie flag in the rip out that lettering is computer cut in reflective but i then airbrushed over it in candys but leaving about a 4mm reflective edge(white) The flamed truck also had a tiny bit of vinyl, the phone number and aussie battler the rest is paint.
Bevin: Yes mate I normally do the prep work (rub back, mask up etc but normally have the head painter helping me out)(he also does the clear coats)
Dennis: G'day mate! well the one with the flag i think took about 4 days or so i think cant remember), the flamed truck took A week and a half, the yellow peterbilt took a little over a week and the 650 took two days... Roughly as i did all these in three two week blocks, doing two trucks in two weeks (three times) have i lost ya yet?
John and Stevo, as i love both of you guys cartoons i was worried about the cartoons coz i suck at drawing up my own cartoons but i think these worked out ok for a learner. thanks!
Like jon says I fly all over this slab of floating dirt to do these big rigs but they work me like a cattle dog but its worth it.
These trucks are at the Sydney truck show this week (except for the flamed one)and the peterbilt is a million dollars worth of truck and the biggest of its kind in the southern hemisphere (so i'm told)(not counting my account heheheh)
if i get a chance i'll show yaz some of the other randon stuff i've been slopping paint on.
cheers for now! Rod

Really nice, Ticks! Can't wait to see some more!
Is the work all your own ideas, or do they give you some idea of what sort of thing they'd like?

Hi Stewy, well they normally give me a very loose idea on what they would like then its up to me to make it happen and try to make thier ideas some how fit and work with the base colours and shape of the trucks and wreckers. The guy with the flamed trucks just lets me go for it as I have given his business such a boost with his nes paint schemes that he just says what he would like to see on them and the rest is up to me. All his trucks are maroon and white, i come in and add the graphics, flames and murals oo yeah and signs, this last one he wanted a bit different so i did the rips and the aircraft paneling. He generally doesnt even see the trucks until they are all done, in fact he still hasnt seen this truck except for pictures as he is in victoria and the truck is still in south australia.
I still have five or so of these babies to do, but for all different companies and different states. Never a dull moment with me !!
cheers!
Rod

Wow Rod, those trucks are AMAZING!Don't know if you knew, but I drove here to South Australia to come meet you and to see your shop. When I got here, you'd already buggered off to the Sunshine Coast!!!!LOL. The Riverland still has no other brush signwriter, other than myself, but Nic and I are leaving Waikerie on Monday. Going for a holiday down the Limestone Coast. Say, where are you doing these trucks? Is it at all possible that I could sneak a peek at them?

I've been impressed by your work for so long Rod. Elvis and Jeff Harvey here have both said what an exceptional job you do and also what a good guy you are. I hope to meet you some day in the future, maybe at this years Cowra Letterheads as I'm hopping over the ditch with Elvis and Jeff to come sling some paint and gold around with you Aussie fellas!! (or should that be cobbers?) LOL
My first thought when I saw these photos was OH MY GOD (followed by the sound of my jaw hitting the floor) You must be so proud to see those rigs rolling on the road knowing you made them look so fantastic

wow thanks guys! I dont think they are anything special as If i had more of my way i would of changed things but ya do what ya have to do in the time they give ya i guess.
Vicky, yes I knew you are down in waikerie and it is close to my old stomping grounds (actually i did work there all the time)
Yeah as Stoka said Brett can still sling paint real good, he is in renmark.
My shop is still in loxton but there is my old opposition in there (until next month) Do ya want to move into my shop in Loxton, you would do real well there and its HEAPS better than Waikerie. hehehe
Anne, i'm a big fan of elvis (the kiwi) and also Jeff, just plane great fun guys and are both awsome at chucking paint at stuff. never say never but not sure about cowra yet! I have done most of the aussie meets (hosted one and only missed a few)
Hope to see you and my kiwi friends soon. cheers! Rod
