So ... new sales girl is hanging out after work with a friend who owns a smoke shop. Comes in next day wanting me to design a "wow" sign for him (no budget discussed). Bugs me for weeks, so I draw this up (pencil on paper) send her and one of my bosses to sell it (pencil on paper) as a logo, screw the sign for now, he already has a crappy sign and without a decent logo what's the point?
Guy loves it, gives boss an expensive cigar for me that tastes like an ass full of wet leaves.
Vectored it out and photoshopped it today. Bosses still haven't decided what to charge for the design, I say 600 is cheap, they think that's pushing it ... thoughts??... I get paid the same either way.
there is a black and white, gray, simple vector color and this (without our logo transparent over it)

Only thing bugging me is the name being transparent I think I would like the white and the orange to be opaque.

Whatever they agree to pay will be a drop in the bucket compared to the pride they will feel for having that on every printed piece they have produced. Nicely done.

Colors aren't set in stone yet as the client hasn't weighed in yet.
I really like that sepitone idea... as another version.
This is only the fancyass version, which I don't expect to look good on everything. I'm thinking an old paper sepitone look would be perfect for matchbooks.
I'm not really a pick a font, pick a pms, add a swoosh, here's your logo, type guy. I think a consistency can be held even with multiple versions.
Thanks

Great work, Mark- and the transparent business logo over the top is a good idea- definitely stops a quickie place from a quick reproduction!
Why did you decide to leave the bottoms of the letter outlines open- the moke & op look OK, but the P & the Ss leave me wondering? (maybe the angle of the openings is what I'm noticing- it's running uphill a bit.

STOP, don't change a thing, great look...especially fond of the open bottoms, gives a sense of dimension...Dan hit upon it, ask for a raise !!!!
Don't do cigars myself, they all taste crappy to me, unless their Black and Slims, refilled w/a more tasty tobacco, lol............

Below is the original pencil sketch ... and the way it is ending up after meeting with the clients. I went with their colors (They said the insides of the letters reminded them of fire on the sketch.) but talked them out of turning some of the bars into a cigar and turning part of the shield thingy at the bottom into a pipe.
The open letters work better in the gray versions ... but kinda' bug me in the "O"s... but look goofy closed too.

Wow! I have been away for a few days and it was good to get back on here to read posts.
Mark I apologize for seeing transparent letters.
Ian, thanks for clearing up the watermark, it makes perfect sense now.
Forgetting that it is a watermark, I thought it gave a great dimensional background design.
I have never had to worry about protecting any artwork so that never entered my mind.
