OK... Crown me the King of signs with long names!
Don't give me the ..."oh, that's hard to read thing". "GUADALA-friggin-JARA"!!!!
The last sign I posted read... "LUBBES-friggen-MIERE" !!! ALL ONE WORD!
Feel my Norwegian pain?
Please let me know what you think of my "Guadalajara" concept. It is either HDU routered with stand-off or plastic formed letters with stand-off - with backlit red LED halo lighting.
If you say it's hard to read... remember it has FIVE "A"s in it plus 6 other letters! Readability will be an issue!
I Thank you for your support.

Be sure you spell Guadalajara correctly. Your first "a" got impatient and jumped in line in front of the "u". I'd also kern the "s" closer to the apostrophe.
So far, it doesn't scream "Mexican Restaurant" to me. The jalapeño pepper may be a tired concept and Chili's already uses it for an apostrophe but the "authentic" panel could possibly be a pepper.

I take your point about the awkward word but there's no need to exacerbate the problem. Red with a touching black shade will not help and 3D, whilst often being attractive, will always compromise legibility.

This is why logo design is the starting point.

I was just asking for a little more inspiration. Not for a free design, or to hire an "artist". Just relaxing on the BB that I find so informative & mutually respectfull.
I went back to this post because I thought it was a tough, yet interesting dilemma & wanted to see if there was something simple I was missing.
The ideas of color & eliminating the arc were valid, but I though maybe there was something else....
Guess not.
My apologies if I overstepped something in this forum. Thank you all for your responses.
Rick. Even though I don't know you at all, I know that at some level you were joking. ... pretty funny actually.
Bruce, you don't want to share? This post could possibly benefit others too. Not just me.
Thanks Adam, Thinner letters & a lighter return does help, but does the loss of letter hieght & weight have more benefit than the bolder, taller letters?
It would be nice to have the room to make the heading twice as large as the other copy, but it just ain't possible.
& Bob... Naaa

He wants an 8x8 sign with that long name and it has to be legible.
Yep, and I want a brand new 5 x 10 Multi Cam router for under $5000. Just ain't gonna happen dude.
An extra 2 feet of sign width would do wonders. Geez, he'll spend twice the amount of an extra 2 feet of sign in one year on lame arse newspaper ads. Convince him to invest in his business. Sounds like he thinks a sign is a necessary expense. He needs to realize that a quality sign is the cheapest form of advertising on the planet.

It's time we all start showing these city planners the USSC study showing that size restrictions on sign size causes accidents and get these ridiculous sign codes fixed.

though it is actually a text layout I could see using for a more upscale restaurant (the white/red sans the black/yellow)
with a name like that I might have actually tried to push the client out-of-the-box. Maybe call the place Guaddie's or The Guad.
enjoy!

Dave!...Nailed it dude! Nice contrast & use of the paragraghed word!
Love the block white on red while the intentional mis-spellings seem to bring your eye to the center of the sign. Nice use of the structure & pillars....Water the plants will ya.
