One idea that would add some dimension to the Raiders plaque is to bevel the letters and the design a little... instead of the stark hard edges. Warms it up and makes it look a little better in my opinion...
Did it up quick to explain what I was talking about.... kinda overdid it on the bevel, but you get the idea...

Jon - that was my thought too - re: beveling/rounding off the elements on the Raiders sign...nice job showing that change. What program did you use to do that 3D look?
Like the Shell sign....nice job there.

edited to add- lets hope it's the Erickson's place! I don't know of Ericksons as a surname here, only Erickson!
P.S. I did something not unlike that, a year ago, but left out the c- the word we had to use was Bismarck & I thought it was just Bismark- fortunately it was not routed!!!

Jon I like your idea, my customer is going to black lacquer the whole panel, then surface sand the face leaving the black in the background, So I don't know if it would have added a whole lot to the sign by beveling it. I'd also like to know what program you used to make that bevel...If your willing to share...great to show customers.
Hey Ray, The letters are cut separately and inlaid, I had tried it with the letters being snug and no space, but I think the space added another effect to it. The shell is also cut separate and applied and blended in by hand. The sign is 2" thick Honduran mahogany.
Ian, Yes the name is Erickson. It's a sign for his family...Although I was worried for a second when I read the posts... I guess Ericksons would be Ericksons', but I also haven't seen that name before.
Thanks, John
