Chris they are painted in solver fluro paints and low sheen acrylic. They are painted onto a product called splash vinyl which takes all paints, I do them in my workshop apply them to window and blade excess and remove. When customer is finished with them they just peel them off themselves leaving no glue residue.
Old chapmans sign background is cherry red does not show up well in this photo.

Cool Stuff Mark .... man after my own heart
All the major vinyl suppliers here in Australia have "Window Splash Vinyl" under various names.
I use mostly the Avery product but have tried the Oracal and Calon ones too.
For some reason it does not seem to be as popular in North America as it is here ... maybe why it is hard to find. It's actually cheaper than painting the white background on the window! And, of course, a lot more convenient for us and the customer.
Actually, I don't see why you can't use any of the digital print material, especially the low tack stuff.
There is one trick ... cut the outlines AFTER you stick it on the window .... lot easier and you don't need app tape.

Jon, the digi print vinyls don't take waterbased paint well, compared with the windowsplash stuff.
Nice work, Mark!
