Sometimes I feel that giving a little more Information about what the design is for will give better feedback.
For example: that logo looks like it could be used for the beginning of a great mystery book, movie, etc. and the (Raven) looks great.
But since you said (Seagull) I know iam on the wrong track.
I think this may help all on getting the answers they are looking for.
I pick my clients brain until I know Iam going in the right direction before I begin.
Mike, I love it for what I see from it. tell more and we will go from there, but if you need a seagull instead of the Raven than Iam getting the wrong feeling on this design.
Again looking at it. If it is for a Development down by a harbor or something like that, than maybe a blue to white gradient would work better.
That is what I mean by "not knowing the facts"

Ya, it would make a great Spook House logo wouldn't it! Maybe put a bat in there instead of the seagull! I totally agree & noticed the "sinisterness" of it too, but thought it could look OK in cut-out letters on a brick monument..?
It's for a new mid-scale housing development built near a hill/ridge, no water.
The client suggested the seagull so I went with that. The seagull is from a picture I took & converted it to a silhouette in Photoshop. Ended up looking kinda like an eagle..?
Love the input! Thank you.
Would love more ideas if so inclined.

Michael, I like the overall look of the logo. I think the seagull would look more seagullish if he was white, and to me the sun would look better without the black outline....
Also, sometimes it helps me to throw it on the intended background to see what it's really going to look like.. did a 5 minute tweak job just for kicks...
I'm thinking I would eliminate the secondary light shadow effect as well....

The seagull image needs to be swapped for one that looks more like a seagull. As far as the colors.....what is the background color??? I'm a firm believer in using an outline color that is close in value to the background color. A black outline on a white background is ALWAYS gonna be trouble. If this logo is going on brick, make the temporary sign a brick color.

I'd like to see the Mystic Ridge with no gradient, in a pale creamy yellow. I don't think you need the trees in the sun, or the harsh black outline. And Mr. Seagull would look better if you made him white, chopped off his feet, eliminated his beak, and tucked him above the "ys" in Mystic. Love...Jill

I have never given anyone on here any of my thoughts on design, and I am usually humbled by the endless talent that is on here daily. Today though, I thought I'd stick my neck out and put in my 2 cents wurth just for fun, and waste a little time on a Sunday afternoon playing. Here are my thoughts, and I assure you I am not an expert, and I am no where nere as good as many of you on here, but here goes! I don't understand the customers "seagull" idea, since you are not on the coast line, but, the customer in their mind is always right so I at first always try to accomidate them. A soaring seagull to me would be more appropriate than one in attack position, or one sitting. Usually when I see a seagull on a sign it is sitting on a piling. I really think an eagle would be more appropriate.... I like the moon and trees and how the "ridge" theme plays in with the shape of the lettering. If the moon is behind the trees, the trees wouldn't be green, I think they would be black or dark grey. So, I played with it a bit, and here's my spin on it, for what its worth.

I don't think birds fly at night. only bats and owls do. But it stills looks nice.

Nice Gull Dave! You did a nice rendition there! I like the white seagull idea too Jon & would definitely lose the light shadow. Thank you. Thank you all for the great input.
BTW... we are in a very lake populated area & seagulls are all over the place here. Almost a nuisance.
I think he wanted it for the ridge effect as seagulls like to soar over ridges. You buyin' that?
