These are two sketches for a Christmas gift. A woman is buying this for her hubby's garage, which is made out of logs. They own a lodge on the river. The sign will go up under the peak of the roof.

She's firm about the deep green background with a brown border. The garage doors are brown. The green will be satin latex paint, all other colors are lettering enamels. She didn't want "shiny" or gold leaf.

The pictorial elements are just roughs, as I will be making them from EZ Sculpt. The tree will be painted, with the border made to look like river rocks, and the pinecones and border dimensional. The little boat, lifesaver, and fishing lure will be EZ Sculpt. The text will be painted onto the lifesaver so it will fit better.

I am emailing her these sketches later today so any input would be appreciated! Such as...can you think of any other "toys" to add or do I have enough? What about the color behind the tree? I had a blue fade originally.

She wanted a "rustic" look, like from a kid's woodburner kit...but I dunno. She is open to either of the pinline border colors, but does NOT want "fancy". She wanted an oval, but also picked the other shape from VectorArt.

Thanks in advance!
Love....Jill

The oval....although the oval is an elegant shape....never the less it is a very simple shape....I was thinking the top design might be too fancy of a shape for a garage....something more simple seems the best to me....also if the sign is to go under the peak of the roof the oval shape might look real nice in that triangular space....not to mention that I like your graphic in the oval at least 10x better than the bottom one

I was wondering why you couldn't use the top sign blank & flip it vertical!

I am a pine tree person, but I think that one would look better in the mountains at a camp. I like the fishing things better! Make the fishy a lure! Maybe a bobber on there...Seriously, Jill! Up here next to the lake, I see lots of nautical themed things, & fishing lures are big plus.... I must have found about 75 of them on the shores over the summer!

Top one if he dips snuff...
Bottom one if he decants his wine before drinking...

I know I'm late here...but what the heck...it's just too much fun not to toss in. [Smile]

I was thinking something that was less symetrically, vertically stacked - - something with some more detail, yet still legible.

I thought this oval one was a good candidate for a banner....keep "Rick's" light and whimsical with the TOY STORE bold and in the face.

But then again, this might look great on a beer bottle...hehe

EDIT - Oh, and 100 points to the person who picks up the mistake which probably explains why I don't do signs as a full-time job... [Bash]

EDIT - Jeez - another 100 points to the person who sees the other mistake....

ADVICE to the wise - don't try to design after you've deplaned and you're hopped up on Dramamine! I can't believe that stuff is street legal.

Or, would you believe I did that on purpose because I'm really sensitive to copyright issues? Ok...I wouldn't believe it either....

Hmmm....I guess I only get 100 points because the only mistake I see is that it should be "Toy Box"...but then again I'm Robotripping and popping Flinstones Chewables!
Oh it's nice alright, Todd! But this lady was real cut & dried about simple and green...hey isn't that a cleaning product? Maybe I should huff that! hahaha
Anyway, I made the little doo-hickeys for on the sign last night and Justis used some of it to make a Christmas orny for his old man.
I wonder if Magic Sculpt dries faster than EZ Sculpt? It's been 8 hours and this stuff isn't hard yet. Hey! Maybe I'll sprinkle it with Viagra!
Thanks for the idea, Todd...I do like the ribbon but feel she would have nixed it, as she did with the script that I used. I wished that I'd have made my lifesaver bigger but it's too late.
Love....Jill
