this is a business card i'm working on for a customer. i designed the logo to be painted on their window and after painting it they decided they wanted to use for their business card also. i scanned in my drawing and traced everything, including the letters in illustrator. i don't do much computer work but figured i could use some practice. any suggestions for improvement? i wasn't sure about the green in the background...

Great design. The only thing I don't like is that there's no phone number / address. It's tough switching from a logo or sign layout to a biz. card layout.. the company I work for just started offering business cards, and for cards I keep laying out just a miniature sign, instead of including additional copy ( such as a billing address, etc.) that is pertinent for business cards. Also, for salons / hairdressers we sometimes include on the back of the card, "time ______" and "date _____" in 1 color on the back, so that they can fill out the appointment, similar to a doctor or dentist. Either way, I really love your website, I remember checking it out when you first posted it. Tons of earth tones, which must be great for your Arizona environment.

Matt, I think it looks good. Odd colors but they somehow work. (thinking back to High School and the color wheel red is the opposite of green therefore complimentary: and yes I had a tyrant teacher who was leagues ahead of the expensive bored old art school teacher who actuallly SMOKED in class in 1980 but I digress) I agree with what Chris has said. The only thing that really bugs me is those odd geeen little corner bits (dots)....I'd delete those. Love....Jill

Can I play devils advocate here? Good, the W and E bother me in word switchblade, upsets it's rhythum, makes it read differently from a distance or quick glance, a shame when the word is a classic, one of those the mind registers and never forgets, but interupt it's flow and it looks like gobblygob or something along lines of witchblad on SE corner of something? Take off flourish on w and e, size e down to same size as other letters in lower case stance, leaving the S the only cap...sometimes more is not better and as they may look cool by themselves or something, those interjected flourishes just get you in trouble if they mess w/flow of word...
I'd play w/those colors, they're in wrong order to work properly, try going from lite center to dark outer and the opposite, should make a huge difference, green is ok shade, but yours falters behind the tan panel, try it as primary background color, I think it would make for an interesting look myself...swap em around...

thanks for the input... the names and info were all going to go on the back of the card. as far as the colors the only one i can change is the background color, the others need to stay the same to match the painted version. frank..there is something about the letters that looked a little off to me but changing them now means they would also be different from the painted version. i do like your suggestions though and will keep them in mind next time. jill.. the corner bits are part of the background, i wanted you to be able to see through the border to add a little dimension but after the outlines and all they got pretty small and yes... it is a hair salon.. i had nothing to do with the name... thanks again!
