Here's some pics of the sign I've been working on.

With everyones advice - it came out pretty good.

I used high quality exterior grade housepaint on the entire sign with the exception of using outdoor grade Ronan Real Gold Aqualeaf for the brite gold letters.

I painted the routed outline/dropshadow with black to 'pop' the gold letters and really make them stand out....

I'm reasonably satisfied with the "leafs" portion, but think I could have done better with a paint that didn't dry so quick....I kind of struggled there....Oil paints I can deal with, acrylics dry up before I can blend and manipulate...but I think it's alright. I outlined a portion of the green center leaf because I wanted it to pop out a bit from a distance....don't know if this was the right solution, but I guess it's ok.

Painting one of these things is very time consuming....I got $1600 for this sign...which was about what most people agreed it was in the right ballpark.

Size is approximately 38" X 56".....1 1/2" 18lb HDU.

After getting this sign design routed by Dennis Raap...I'll never consider sandblasting again....it came out sooooo perfect.

Thanks again to all those that chipped in advice...Here it is...hope you like it.

Feel free to critique, ask questions, etc.

Nice work Todd... loved the step by step post thing.

That's a routed background?

If so...how long does it take to machine to router something like that?

Nice job.

Mike - yep, it was all routed - including the background woodgrain texture.

I can't remember exactly what Dennis Raap said it took to route out. I wanna say it was like 4 hours to do the entire sign.....once he had the setup done...but I could be off there.

Thanks guys!

Thanks...

Amy - I really liked the gold paint! It kind of shows up as a 'beige" in these photos...but it really was a bright, shiney gold.

Not a gold-leaf gold....but pretty nice nonetheless.

Your tip on an undercoat of mustardy yellow was right-on and I'm glad I followed your advice.

Todd, the sign looks great!

I took about 4 1/2 hours to machine the sign. The setup time took way longer than it should have I am still learning all the tricks to that [Smile]

I haven't been able to stop by Letterville much lately hoping that will change soon.

Thanks again guys! Yes, I have to tell you...there's a real good feeling about emailing your vector design to someone, and picking up your sign a few days later ready-to-paint....

To me, it's worth it! When I arrived at Dennis' shop and he showed me the sign, I was happy as a clam.

Dusty, the beveled letters were a last minute decision. I asked Dennis to send me a photo of what his "woodgrain" effect looked like before doing it. He sent me a photo of another sign he did...and that sign had the beveled letters in it.

I asked Dennis, "Hey, you can do beveled shapes?"

He said, "Sure."

And I said, "Can you do them to my letters?"

He said, "No problem."

So I told him to go for it...because I really liked that look...and I was very pleased too with how much interest that added to the overall sign....

Hey thanks everyone! Your encouragement is much appreciated - don't feel bad about critiqing it either - it's all about getting better, right?!

Hey, just wanted to update you on this - customer picked it up today and really liked it! [Big Grin]

In fact, he said he's going to give me *a sketch* of another sign he wants me to improve upon for another piece of property he has - and do another dimensional sign....

This time, it will be approximately 30 inches wide by 20+ inches tall....and will hang from a custom pole/stone sculpture thing he has envisioned....

Anyway - it brought me more business....so that's just icing on the cake. Thanks again for all your help and support.
