Our client from the Callingwood signage update project is totally renovating another rental property and asked us to produce a landmark sign. This is all they had for signage... Here's what we installed yesterday...This was fun to do and the customer is very pleased... There were a lot of shadows from the trees. They are going to landscape around the sign and I will return for some better photos when they've finished. Substrate is 3/4" MDO..."v"carved and prismatic lettering and graphics. This time we fabricated the post decor in the shop and slipped it over 2 4"x4" treated posts set in concrete. We are now working on the designs for another client that saw our Callingwood project, and wanted to upgrade his signage on a couple of projects. See Dan, I was paying attention when you told us, "Build it, and they will come."..thanks.

Very nice. It looks to me like there are some changes in the direction Comsign is heading. I think they are good ones, and it looks like you are enjoying the new fields. Good on ya! Man you guys are making me want a router!

Can you give a little more info. on the v-carving MDO? I have a project in house right now that I would like to use a cheaper alternative to HDU but I was afraid v-carving MDO would make it fall apart. What happens when you hit a void in the center of the MDO? Or can you get good sheets?
Edit: Nevermind, I saw the answer in the original post. Do you just brush it on after you v-carved it? I assume with a paint mask on it?

Lotti, Fortunately we have a great source for MDO locally. It is almost void free all the way through, it is dead flat, and has a quality factory paint finish on one side. On this job I had absolutely no patching to do because of wood defects. After the carving is done, I give all exposed wood a coat of high quality exterior wood glue...Titebond III is my choice. This process has been documented here many times. Then prime and finish coat as usual. This is so simple as I route through paint mask...so you can just slap on the coats.
Now I did have a small operator....er file error and something got carved that wasn't supposed too. I was able to patch that with epoxy wood putty and voila it was fixed.

Your kind words are very encouraging and much appreciated. For so many years I've been inspired by others work. I'm glad I finally decided it was time for me to "kick it up a notch". Callingwood was the first, Oakmount 2nd, I have a 3rd ready to order and 2 other lining up. I finally embraced Dan's "Build it and they will come" philosophy. See Dan I was listening...I just didn't hear." Next step...add some Gold leaf...and more 3d elements. The Oakmount customer did some landscaping around the sign yesterday...at first I thought man that's pretty basic, but then I thought to myself the sign should be the focus, not the landscaping.
