Thought I'd post something since I haven't showed much work lately. This is 4x6 d/f hdu, carved squirrel and gold leaf borders, red veriegated leaves. Background is 3 coats Ben Moore flat latex.
I like the flat finishes on backgrounds, makes the sign look more mellow to my eye. Copy is OS.
This is about what most of my sandblasted stuff is looking like lately, so it's a pretty typical sign for me I guess.
Actually the post color is greyer than the picture color.

I agree with you about using flat finishes for the background. Gloss finishes just make the sign look too much like plastic. And I like how you used the gold leaf to help accent the sign without making it a prominent feature.
