After working out some ideas with the guys in the shop looking for design input, it finally came down design on the fly. We wanted to go with something "badass" and a Grim Reaper theme took form.
First up was the front fender...
The fender was shot in black basecoat and the image was done with white. I added a little green just to get a sense of what direction things would go and getter a little peek at the end result. As it turned out, I was doing the skull/ flame thing and took off on my own, making the teeth form the word "Grim" and giving them a fanglike look.
To get the ripped look on the back half, we tore strips of application tape and covered over the image. The back half was shot with a silver HOK base and the mask was removed. The rip outlines were then added in black and white to give it a little more depth.
The back fender being so wide, it was a great surface to go nuts on. Again painted in black first, white basecoats were airbrushed on, still designing on the fly. We wanted to get a really nasty look to the whole bike and this sure fit the idea. The fender was then brought into the paint booth were Billy and I dusted on the silver base with both a touch up gun and airbrush.
A different approach on the tank... This time the silver base was sprayed overall first. the application tape torn and applied as a mask and a coat of black basecoat last. With the mask still in place, the airbrush work was done, again in white with a few touches of black for clean up. (I got a little skull crazy... )
The mask was then pulled to reveal the base silver and it all 3 parts went into the booth for Kandy green and clearcoat.
Billy wanted to do do a subtle difference between the chassis and parts, so he took over the reigns on them by basing them in gold instead of silver, which added a slightly more yellow hue to them...
Once back together, I added a few pinstripes in green and black One Shot, did a little repair (read that as hiding a boo-boo) on the back fender.
Be kind...it's my first chopper.

Linnie, The red is the reflection of the red carpeting in our showroom...they're chrome.
Doug, The airbrush/pinstripe work took about 8 hours all totaled, but the entire process was mixed into the regular schedule over the course of 4 days. The real time was in the preparation of the bike itself. The entire bike was dismantled, gussets were cleaned up and ground where needed, etc. My best guess is that there was nearly 100 man hours into this one. We got fussy.
If anyone is down here in the Atlanta area this week, the bike, along with this one from the gang at JCS...
will be on display at the AJC International Car Show until May 7th. Rapid

I like the Kandy effect as well over the base colours. You can do so much with them! Nice effect Ray and that other ride sure looks sweet! How are things going for you at the new place?
