A few weeks back I posted that I was going to be trying out a new Iwata Micron Airbrush that I had recently purchased. This guitar, a Christmas present for my 17 year old daughter Laura, was the test piece. The airbrush is pretty nice and the guitar was a somewhat emotional and very joyful gift to give her with something painted on it by dear ( not so old ) dad!

Nice work Bevin, and the guitar looks nice too.

Bevin I'm getting a New Airbrush for my Birthday next week, where did you purchase yours? Is this brush good for base clear as well, I know some of the older Airbrushes used only water based inks when it came time for super small detail.
Thanks

Harris...I did more of this with the micron than I normally would have just to get a feel for it but the spray pattern is a little fine for something that size. I did find the paint atomization really good. I think I still prefer my HP-BC model with the jar on the bottom the best for general use. The micron will be a great addition for the fine detail.
Neil...I purchased that airbrush through bearair.com in the states. Thier prices are very competitive even with the dollar exchange (which is much better these days). The only hit I really took on it was the customs fees. Their service and delivery time was very good as well.
Most or maybe all of the Iwata models are now set up for spraying automotive paints. I would not recommend to you the one that I just purchased. Take a look at the HP-BC or the Eclipse series. The detail is still excellent with those models and they are a more general use brush and not as expensive as the Micron series.

Thanks Bevin, I just got off the phone with a supplier here on St. John's and the Micron sells for around $850.00 and the other model sells for around $350.00. I was sold on the model you suggested, I will check out bear, I delt with them before, and they were excellent.

I can't believe that is Laura! Holy Cow! I remember when she was about two feet tall! hahahahahahahaha!
That paint is awesome. I love the way you use one color to do a whole rendering. Just beautiful work!
Talk with you real soon!

Definately check out bear air. That micron C-Plus cost me $385 US from them. Even with the dollar echange, shipping and brokerage fees I had in my hands for about $580 Canadian.

The paint is automotive base/clear. HOK and PPG. I wet sanded the factory finish with 800 and after the airbrush work was completed applied 2 coats of clear. Then about 4-5 hours for wet sanding with 2000 and buffing.

I couldn't believe it when I read your post that bear air would no longer be carrying the Iwata line. Went to their site and checked it out for myself and sure enough, they have it posted right there. I checked out the site for dixie art supplies and their prices appear to be listed the same. Let me know how you make out.
