just designed a new business card. just getting started in the business and i'm trying to get a shop going on the side while at another job. i figured if i had a professional looking business card no one would know i'm working out of the carport. i also wanted to get some practice on the computer. this was all done in illustrator, i have past computer experience but this was my first time designing any lettering or sign related work using the computer. my name and info are gonna go on the back and i'll probably do a little fine tuning before sending it to get printed. any comments or suggestions are appreciated. thanks!

Matt, I really love the background too. Looks VERY old! My only suggestions are that I would like to see "SIGNS" bigger and tighter to Saguaro, and the color of Saguaro and Signs a bit darker brown for more contrast. Love....Jill

thanks! i wish i could take credit, but the background is a free texture image i downloaded. i know, i know, i should have made one myself but this one is so much better than anything i could whip up, and it was free!

My suggestion falls along side Jill's - make "Signs" the same font and "do-dads" as the name so that it reads as one thought...and pull them closer together. The way I see it now, the word "signs" looks like an after thought.
Great textures and overall image.

Looking fine Matt. You have two of the best giving you advice above... incorporating their suggestions would put the design over the top!
Best success with your venture!

I would flip the brush the other way ('cuz it's upside down) and extend the handle out the other side.
Overall, I think the design is nice. the background is very cool. I love the feel this card has.

ok, made some changes and i think it looks and alot better. made the letters darker, made signs bigger and closer to saguaro and changed the brush and extended it through the other side. i left signs the same font because i think it stands out a little more than using the same font as saguaro. thanks for the help!

barry- i agree with you on the right corner thing, but i wasn't sure what to put there so i just left it. maybe if i can come up with a catchy slogan... and i do like those fades, never even thought of it. thanks!

Good point, Barry. A slogan or even a name would fill that space nicely.
Good call!

Ok Ok, I like the fade on Saguaro but NOT on Signs. I wouldn't want a subliminal suggestion that my signs faded. What about "Stand Out From The Crowd" or "Stand Proud" or even "Stand Tall" as a slogan? Love....Jill

I wasn't too sure about the fade on "SIGNS" either Jill....I just thought it looked plain once the other part was done. I think the font weight is too bold once it is the darkest thing on there..it seems to pull the eye. Dunno offhand what else to do about that.
But let the record reflect that you "liked" something I did...does this mean the start of something NEW, and Beauty-fulll

ok, after fooling with it a little, i think i'll go with a real subtle fade on saguaro, a little less than the one barry did. no fade on signs and nothing in the right corner, i tried some different things but i thought it looked little busy and have plenty of room on the back for my info so i think i'll leave it. thanks for the input!

That was a great suggestion from Jill about the tagline but the Signs Now registered tagline is "Stand out in a Crowded World"; it would not be a good idea to get too close to that. Definately put your name and contact info on there!
