We have been enlisted to design a new logo for a client who designs and cuts custom granite countertops as well as high end floor tile. Take a look.....

I vote for the top one....is that a SAW BLADE on the second? I know they cut tile with blades like that, but I think in most folks mind they will associate a circular saw blade with wood construction...but they're both nifty!!

I agree with Barry. The top design definitely has a classy "High End" feel to it. It will attract the clients with the big bucks.
That being said, tuck that other design in your back pocket, it is going to come in handy another day. I really like it, just think it doesn't compete for this application.
And Rick - can you post bigger pictures? Some of us are dang near blind

While both are nifty, Rick, I am with Amy. Top one, different font, in a very dark tone of the green that you have there. The white seems to be lost to me. If you do stick with that font, I would tighten up the kerning. Love....Jill

Showing the images small actually has some benefit. It's easier to spot problems with how quick the sign reads.
I like the top design - especially the shape of the panel. I like the stone texture too. The typeface isn't showing up very well. The stuff going on inside the letters is nearly the same color as the background - or at least it looks that way. The shape of the font itself doesn't bother me, but the pattern inside the font isn't working. There isn't enough contrast to push it away from the background. I envision the type as a darker greenish black, something like this:
My mind wanders. And that's not a good thing, 'cause it's too small to be out there alone. Posts: 3129 | From: Tooele, UT | Registered: Mar 2005

Offer at least 1 variation on the top design, (with WELCH and CENTER solid and/or switch outline color to face color?) and present in scaled brochure/vehicle/storefront layouts along with 1 version of the 2nd layout.

Tee-pee, wigwam; wigwam, tee-pee; RELAX !!! Your just to tense...
I'd like to see Kissy's suggestion (concave lettering-depicting chiseled stone), but only on word stone and using #2 layout, sans sawblade. DO NOT change graphic below, it's a perfect illusion in it's format and works very well, only thing that I "might" change, would be the colors and only to brighten them for more impact.

They're both great, Rick, but I like the top one, too. I agree with Kissy, though...

Rick I would go with the top one, the bottom one looks more like an earring to me.

I like the top one. I really like Kissy's suggestion about the chisled lettering.
Nice work, Rick!

The design of #2 is really nice, but cutting isn't the specific image you're trying to convey is it? The design of #1 is SOLID which is the image of rock, although it's not as quirky or flash, it is more appropriate for the job. (funny, that contradiction of sorts)
