Here is a version of my logo I decided to use on my van, which is a 96 Plymouth Voyager. To see the version of my logo on my business cards and website, take a look at it at www.astepabovesigns.com
I wanted to switch it up a bit as I was sick of my logo and wanted to make something more legible for my vehicle lettering. My van is currently getting a bit of bodywork done, as my dad borrowed it last week when I was out of town, and when pulling it behind the house to wash it for me, hit the corner of the house and tore up the side a bit. So once I get it back mid-next week, I plan to letter it. I have been in business since 1999 and have never lettered my own vehicle!! So I figure it is about time, I just need to do it. Here is a side view of what I have so far, I would like to keep the vinyl to the side and rear windows, but it doesn't really matter.
And here is a closeup of the window area:
My thoughts were to use SignGold for the prismatic 'Signs'. I was thinking something like a mirror gold and perhaps a florentine swirl or small engine turn. Will this have any negative effects in regards to legibility or anything? I have not used a combo of signgold like this before. I have also kept the lettering white, at least for now, as I just want to keep this nice and clean.
Any thoughts, comments, whatever, I am always stuck when doing my own design work, so critiques are totally welcome. I am not set on too much with this layout...
I like your logo for the most part. I would play around a little bit with the "G", though. It doesn't pass the squint test. There is an akward negative space above the "G". The other letters are good-n-beefy and the "G" looks like their 98 lb cousin.
I think mixing florentine or turned gold with the miragold wouldn't look right. I would consider the matte surface gold instead.
I would really consider lettering the van itself. In my opinion, lettering the glass area looks kind of chessy to me. Cheesy as in temporary.
If a bold look is what you are looking for, I would also think about putting a clear vision print on the glass and overlap the lettering onto the glass. You could print the background of the print to match the color of your van.
Some smaller logos on the door would be good, too. More of the "corporate" look, you know?
Just my thoughts...

Great input so far, I really appreciate it. I agree with not going for the half-assed look and just keeping it to the windows... I will have to work on it Monday, I leave to visit my sister in college in NY in about 6 hours, and won't be back till Sunday evening...
Maybe doing my logo on a tilt from the body onto the window and incorporating some sort of graphic element in the background, maybe a digital print of some sort or something....

Tyler, I would like to see the "STEP" actually stepped up a bit, maybe about a fifth of the letter height. That allows you to go with a bit darker "A" and "ABOVE" and lessens the confusion possible with "ASTEPABOVE". A visual "step" will enforce the name. I agree with the doors lettered. I do like to letter onto the windows of vans for some customers, but it is usually in all white for quick impact, not for style. Also for leased cars that they are afraid to letter any other way.

Tyler, I would have kept it on the windows. The copy needs tightened up on the inner window, tho. Maybe reverse the tagline and the website, and make them yellow. Love....Jill

I personally like your original logo. I'd just like to see a little space opened in between the A and STEP. I'd be interested in which logo others prefer and why. My eyes find the original one easier to process and I think it is visually more interesting.

Kelly, Thanks for the input. One thing I didn't like about my original logo (on my website www.astepabovesigns.com ) is that without some of the lettering effects, like the lines through 'A Step' and the gradient on 'above' and whatnot, the logo didn't look right. I figure if it looks good in plain black and white and can be reproduced easily, it's good to go. The other thing is some people would seem to not know the name of the company with that one, it seemed confusing to some people... Also, I was ready for a change, just for fun, to do something a little different...
I haven't gotten a chance to work on this yet, I just got home from NY late last night and have alot to catch up on. I will work on the design later tonight and post some jpgs
