Eric, nice airbrush work, good color balance, I'd used a different theme, but art is in the eyes of the beholder.

Don't worry about negative opinions, like certain body parts, we all have one. Van bagged?

Later, keep slingn' paint.

This comment is for Carl.
I have noticed you being negative on 2 posts in the portfolio area.

Never having seen your Casino work, I can't comment on your style. Certainly someone as esteemed as you profess to be would realize that it is not the way of the Letterhead to blatantly rip on another's work.

This was this man's first post. What does he get? Smart-ass comments from his peers. Who knows why he chose this particular genre? At least he painted it. It did not come out of a computer. This took time and talent.

As a fellow Pennsylvanian and a Letterhead, I had to speak up in this man's defense. What happened to "Leave your ego at the door?" Apparently you left your manners there as well.

I hope he returns to this site, even after having his ears slapped back. I for one would like to see more of his work.

Love...Jill
(and to Mike and Brian....at least he knows how to post his own pictures! [Razz] )

Hi Eric,
I'm with Jill on this one!
Letterville is in my understanding a place to share our knowledge. I hope that a couple of negative comments here don't keep you from coming back Eric. There are a lot of good people on this site and I'm sure you have valid contributions to make.
I really don't understand why people feel the necessity to shred someones self esteem. [Roll Eyes] Obviously a lot of time and energy went into painting this van, and though it is not my first choice for subject matter my kid thought it was pretty cool. I've seen some stuff posted by some of the veterans on this site that I thought was pretty bad, but that is a reflection of differences in taste. I know some of my work has room for lots of improvement, and if I thought someone was about to tear me to shreds over it I sure wouldn't post it.
So Eric, take some of the comments with a grain of salt, learn from the sincere ones and ignore the ignorant ones. Keep coming back, I know for a fact that one of the mean comments was made from a great person with lots to share. [Dunno]
As to the negative posts -

I'm with the girls on this one too.

Eric, it's not something I would want, skulls & brain matter isn't exactly my style. Not even sure I'd want to do that for a customer, It would give me the heeber-jeebers & nightmares. [Wink]

That being said, I can see past the subject matter and see that the workmanship & rendering of the subject matter is great. Nice execution Eric.

And don't let those that can't see past their own egos put you down.

Nothing gets attention like controversial artwork. I wonder if Carl and his friends actually know what it takes to paint a complete vehicle in transparent and transluscent paints. Though it may seem goudy to some, this was the style that Craig Fraser brought us and the same style which plummeted his name to stardom. You folks who do vehicles in paint know what I'm talking about so lighten up on this guy.

There are tons of these type paint schemes out there just like those antique signs you all seem to pat each other on the back about.

So whats new [Smile]

a picture says a thousand words joey. [Razz]

LOL

now, back to this guy's van graphics, #1, he has a lotta "balls" to post his stuff here.

most people are intimidated to show their wares here, in fear of getting "Slapped" !
i have respect for his labor and wish eric only the best.

the portfolio page can be brutal.
(joey proves that every chance he gets. [Smile]

it is hard enough for someone to show their "work" much less to have someone rake them across the coals!

temper critisism with goodwill, kindness and a touch of humor.

Joey, of all the strippers i have ever known,
you are one of them.

I wish I had seen this post earlier. Let's hope we can do a little damage control and make sure this never happens again.

Carl. This is Letterville. We're all hear to learn. It's just not good enough to say something is crap. Different strokes for different folks. You sound like on of those old farts from the 50's that proclaimed Rock N' Roll as junk.

I'm an old foogey too. I don't care for much of today's music and some of today's design trends leave me scratching my head. Eric's style may not ne everyone's "cup of tea," but it is is certainly not crap.

There are lots of times, those of us with more experience and design knowledge see designs that could be improved. Out of respect, it's always thoughtful to ask if the designer is open for suggestion. Those serious about improving their work are usually more than eager to learn from those they admire and/or respect.

In the future, anyone calling another's work crap will not be tolerated. If I had seen this earlier, the mean spirited posts would have been removed. Seeing the topic got this far, we may as well learn from it.

Carl does not like this design. That's ok! He's entitled to his opinion. I want to know why?

Is there something wrong in the composition? The layout? Color scheme? Looking back at his year's of experience in this type of work, what techniques, materials, etc. would you use to improve this project. Teach us something!
