My mom threw this piece on her wheel, then added the grapevines (all done by hand) and finished it with her own home made glazes, except for the shiny gold which was storebought.
Can't seem to get her to sell this stuff though, she doesn't think she could bring in enough money to make it worthwhile... of course I see differently! I'll have to get pics of more of her work, I've got cupboards full of it.

Very nice Mike. With the right marketing plan, I can see that working out nicely for her. Tell her she may not make her millions doing it, but it will at least pay for her "hobby". Hey, how about doing personalized ones for weddings, anniversaries?

I think it's lovely. If she does decide to sell, the wineries (at least along the central and northern California area) that have tasting rooms also have small gift shops and they are always looking for unusual things with a "grape/wine" theme.

Mike, design a sign for a client using handmade clay tiles and get Mom to make them for you. That should break the ice to selling her work, and give you a whole new market.

iam also a potter, to make a living at it is tough unless your a "production potter." meaning you can can crank out like piece after like piece and or do one thing no other potter does. you think the sign business is expensive try pottery. kiln $2000-4000, 0ne good wheel $1000, tools, glazes, bats, pug mill, slab roller, glaze spray equip. your into $10,000 before you know it...then you neead a seperate building from your house or all the basement..cause its dirty. then you do a firing in the kiln and its 16 hours to fire it(you will poop when you see you next electric bill) and cool enough to get stuff out. and a good day at a kiln opening is no broken pieces...but this is not always the case. we did a firing in a walk in gas fired kiln, yea walk in it was that big! we made stuff for 2 months(10-15 people). had it all nice and dry and was gona do a bisk fire(1000-1200 degrees)well 1st 2 hours getting up to temp was ok....then sounded like 4th of july.....POP, CRACK, BANG, PING....one piece blew up, and started a chain reaction with the pieces that came off it.....lost the whole load. but i still love doing it....wish i had the time...if i get this garage up i hope to get a wheel and kiln and set up a pottery area.

Hey, That's something mama and I have been wanting to do, but never have the time. Our local arts center offers classes. Our youngest went to camp there this past summer and did some stuff. He'll be the only one home after this year so maybe thing will settle a bit and we can find sometime to get our hand dirty.
