I'm painting anything I can get my hands on to try to come up with enough cash to pay my credit card bills this month...a friend has been bugging me to paint rocks and folk art signs to sell in the gift shops around town.
One shop I'm going to try to sell stuff to is called...."The Spotted Chicken"!! Hope she will buy them...

damm girl your stuff is great. You are a true artist . that tiger cub rock was fantastic as were you sea lion and orca.. ( they are a fantastic animal) It is easy to see you have great talent and ingenuity. I am gonna have to break away from my land use signs and get outta my box where i am comfortable. I know I dont have the talent you have but i feel now after seeing your stuff i gotta give it a whirl.

Great stuff "A"! I really love how you brought life to those rocks. You are very talented! I know how it is, I don't think I'm all that talented but I do think my work is much better than a lot of the local shops around here, yet I struggle to make ends meet as well. We both need sales associates!
Keep up the fun stuff!

Hey! I went downtown to that chicken store and....
they were closed
BUT.... I went to an antique store that I'd been to before and asked if they were interested in this cabinet i traded for some signs a couple of months ago.... They were!
Owner came over, we settled on $150 cash (it needs work, and that was the price anyway) BUT... He saw my watercolors and wants to hang them in his store!!!So we took those back to be hung up to sell on consignment.
Also...he bought my seal rock too!
So now i got enough to cover my butt till the next bill (wednesday )

Adrienne, Very nice stuff! Definitely marketable if you find a proper outlet. You kinda echo the conflicting feelings I have in my own work. I am just getting back to my roots as a fine artist/printmaker after 27 years as a signman. My problem though is that I can still make more money now in a few hours of signmaking than I can producing art that MIGHT sell. In effect, our customers are our "art patrons" in that they "commission" pieces and pay. Making ART that MAY sell is a little scary, don't you think? Anyone else in this boat, and if so , how do you make it float?

Right, artsy craftsies aren't going to pay the rent, but it will pay those little bills that keep popping up. And I'm only doing these at night while watching tv.!
I failed to mention that while I was in the antique shop I found out he was having an auction in July, I sold him on a simple window splash for $150....doing that tomorrow
I look at the rocks and little paintings as samples of what I can do, hoping to lead them down the road to a pricey mural!! A:)

Wow Adrienne, those are fantastic! I just spent the night moving my living room into a bedroom so that I can use this large room to put up all my easels. I am so jazzed about being able to get some similar projects done.
I recently happened upon a gal who is just opening a craft shop and begged me to give her some things to display! I've sold or given away most of what I've done over the years. I've never had a display to speak of. Seeing your post is so inspiring.
I have a collection of rocks that I've toted around for years and was just gonna let clients make a request. I've collected them from creeks and rivers where I spent vacation time with my girls and family when we visited here.
I wouldn't worry about money Adrienne. We are to consider the sparrow and the lillies of the field! Pierre is right, you rock!

Adrienne, your work is fantastic. I'd love to have a rock like the leopard cub, but with a white tiger cub. Email me and let me know, okay? Wonderful stuff!

Thanks....I'm kinda surprised, I thought painted rocks were old hat...but I went downtown with them today, and got a lot of positive responses, also some orders for my folk art signs...
This comes at a good time for me, my landlord and i had a confrontation the other day, found him in my kitchen (he figured if my back door was open he could just walk right in)
He accused me of painting in the house (which I don't) and running a business out of my house (which I don't) and he got real rude...I told him I had not invited him in and to please step outside, I had to tell him three times, then he shouted "I'm putting an end to this" whatever the hell that ment...anyway.....we are not getting along and I really need a place with a shop/garage where I can work....I'm looking.....
Meanwhile, not only did I get some VERY positive interest in my craft stuff today, I may have a chance to do the signs for one and maybe murals for another....
Getting out and cold calling isn't as frightfull as i imagined, and i think making a personal appearance makes a big difference...
