Here's a pair of Hog tanks that I just recently completed for one of my American customers. There is quite a contrast in subject material between the two tanks. Not how I would want it if it were mine...but what the customer wants, the customer gets!

 -

 -

 -

This first tank is a really nice patriotic piece. It shows two portraits of his daughter...the recent version in colour on the side and a ghosted image of her on the front when she was younger. The American flag in the background representing freedom and the eagles with their wings around her represent protection.

 -

 -

The second tank has just about everything evil you can imagine from Charles Manson to the Grim Reaper, some skulls and a pool of flowing blood. Like I said, what the customer wants...

I started with new bare metal tanks and the entire job is done in the automotive base/clear system using transparent Kandy Toners for the artwork. All the images are freehand airbrushed except for the flag design and the lettering & cross symbols on the second tank. After the artwork was completed the tanks were clear coated, sanded smooth, re-cleared and then wet sanded with 2000 grit and polished.

I hope the pictures display half decent because both murals are quite detailed as the entire project took almost a hundred hours to complete.

Phhhhttttt.....!

I've seen better!

THAT WAS A JOKE! That is amazing work! I will be in contact! I've got to know how you did some of that!

I agree with you about the "theme", but it looks like you pulled it off remarkably well!

Bevin,

I love the expression that you've got on the right hand eagle. Could almost be saying "Go ahead. Make my day."

Truely bitchin quality scooter art, I hope you got the full meal and desserts too. Some times these clowns don't respect the work that goes into it and your satisfaction is only the cash and knowing for yourself what it takes.

Bevin, Great work. I just bought my first tank off of Ebay to work on yesterday. I have been doing airbrush for some years now, but just haven't got into bikes. I still have a sore spot from where I broke by back racing them in 1976. Their is so much demand out there for good airbrushing, that I'm going to try to pick up some winter work. Your work is a great inspiration for me. Thanks, Jack

Thanks everybody for your wonderful comments. Since I have not been painting very much for the last couple of years it was nice to get a chance to post something new on the bullboard.

Neil; I've been using the Iwata airbrushes for many years now. I have 2 HP-BC models which are my main brushes. The one has been in my hand so much that the chrome is worn off it in some places. I've had it serviced a couple of times and fitted with the newer solvent proof "O" Rings and it works great! The second one is for a backup in case I drop one off a scaffold right in the middle of a big project causing it severe damage (speaking from experience). I use a larger BE-2 model for larger areas and a Sata-Mini Jet touchup gun for background work and applying a fast drying intercoat clear over finished areas throughout the process. I would like to look into trying some of their newer models as their selection has grown quite abit.

If you are referring to Donny Peterson's HD Cycle in Toronto, then I do know him but have never done any of their work. Thanks for asking though.

Randy; sorry I don't have a pic of the mural from Welland. Here's the wolf that I did in Stratford though. Can't recall if you were at that meet or not. Seems like so long ago.

 -

Peter; the time frame of approx. 100 hours includes all the prep work and clear coating steps for the tanks as well. There was also additional time spent on the two fenders which I had originally painted about ten years ago. They received some touchup work and new clear coat. My estimate for the complete project was $5000 CN. I didn't make lawyer's wages on it but I've ended up with much less per hour on many other projects over the years. Thats often the problem with this type of work, but I'm not complaining on this one. I havn't had the opportunity to do anything like that for a while so I really put a lot into that one and it was very satisfying for me.

thanks again
