I too do not do Helments any more...to me it has always been like a "Monkey making love to a football" experience, they are extremely hard to hold to work on......

Now all you guys know who to refer your helmet jobs to. "since you hate them so much" I have always loved lids as a way to try diffrent things before I tried to put them on a bike paint job.
The glow in the dark paint is house of kolor paint. It is a powder you mix with intercoat clear and apply over white. It stores light energy and in dark it glows for a few hours.

Ultra nice, ... your insignia on there is a class act too. Great branding. I could see a day where people could say "yeah, I've got an indocil art helmet" ... with the same emphasis as they might now say, "yeah, I drive a harley".

A buddy of mine still does helmets---hockey goalie masks too. He has some pretty standard stuff that he does that the average guy eats up.
Custom---he tells them 200 bucks for layout and design and then 400 bucks for the helmet. 600 sounds like alot, but it's peanuts compared to what guys pay for other stuff---price out a race suit or a set of bike leathers, or a set of goalie pads.

Cool, Ryan! You do some nice work. Helmets are hard to work on and worth every penny you are charging for them! I made a makeshift stand once to hold a helmet. Had a piece of pvc with a foam head like the wig pieces sit on (beauty supply store) to set the helmet over. Do you have a special way to hold 'em?

I did a helmet about 10 years ago, something like the one shown, I charged $400.00 at that time, I did'nt make much on it for all the time that went into it, but he said that it was a good deal... he paid close to a grand for the helmet before painting, he's one of those guys that travel around moto crossing.

I would love to tell you guys a lie but I only charged 450. plus shipping. He said just make it flashy and colorfull. He also said he could only spend 450.00. When someone lets me do what I want they usualy get a great deal. I get to try new things and they get a great deal. The majority of my helmets sell for 500.00. That is probably to cheap but that seems to be all the market will bear. There are others around me that stay around 350.00. So I am usually the highest.I think I should be in the area of 600 to 800. The good news is that I do get what I should for my guns.
Scott, I would love to see your wrap. How much do you get for a wrap. I wonder what a half wrap half paint job would look like. I have cleared over digital prints with great success. I would love to stop in sometime. Do you do small jobs. I have to go all the way to Motorsports Design to get my digital now.I dont like the owner of ProCal.
Mark, I do have a system for holding the parts and I will try to take some pics and post them.

Ryan, yeah you're right about the price being low for that amount of detail but then again no one wants to spend a ton of cash on something that's going to get beat up. I see lots of dinged helmets dealing with jetski racers and it makes me wonder if they deliberately take hammers to their helmets.

Nice job Ryan. You're right about the market, the locals aren't in the same leauge as the big names pocketbook wise yet their paint jobs end up being more detailed, go figure. That glow in the dark stuff is cool , one with that much on it will throw off enough light to read by

the last one I did had a broken surface with an exposed brain showing, lots of magots n stuff, it had a bandage painted around the edge with just enough hair to make it look like an accident site i don't get to play with much colour
i hated painting helmets too till i got my best friend 'fred the head' fred is a head form that I made and stuck on a old potographers light stand with wheels that lock and a positionable top bit (you know those things that angle and then screw into place) fred is cool
devo is finishing off the new look, tank n guard stands this weekend so i'll be back in business painting without the ballancing act finally! sure does make a heap of differance having the right stuff sum times i miss the old shop
