Here's another fun one I'm working on now. It's 4'x16' dibond with airbrushed chrome in 1-Shot.
It will have some "embossed look" flames above Findley and a digital print of a Quad racer on the left projecting above the top of sign.

I'll post completed pics when installed.

Cool stuff!

I love your work. I got some insight into using the old airbrush from Ryan Young at the Sandcastle meet. Someday I'll learn to do this stuff. There is just so much neat stuff you can do with an airbrush!

Thanks for sharing! [Big Grin]

Thanks, everyone. All comments and critiques welcome (Ryan, Neil [Wink] ....
Janette, a fan club?? now I'm embarrassed [Embarrassed]

This effect is not all that hard. Just alot of steps involved. Take a letter and do a practice run till you get the feel for it. I like chrome that looks fluid. To get this look, I used cool greys, warm greys, process blue/white mix and white.
Santo is right, Rhonda Price does very nice chrome, too. [Smile]

Mark that brings back a lot of memories when I used to do everythiong by hand... Do you use the same techniques as I used to do?
Remember this Guys... First you had to pick A Typestyle from the letreset book, go down to the Graphics supply store, hope they had that particular letterstyle in stock... pay through the nose for that waxy sheet of letters, go home, find some shocard stock, lay down your registration line... start transfering the letters.. only to discover that you don't have enough Lower case "E"'s. you'd do some fancy improvisation at this point, After that you'd find your projector, get set up, turn off the lights, then only turn them on again when you you forgot to put up some paper on the wall, so you put up your paper, turn off the lights, go to transfer the image, only to trip over the cord belonging to the projector, Turn back on the lights... swear a bit, realign the image and then turn off the lights... Frig! where's my bloody pencil... Here it is.... Turn on the light, take your mat knife, sharpen the pencil, turn off the lights, focus the image, discover that you don't have enough paper on the wall, get more paper, turn off the lights, refocus image, trace letters, take down pattern, after tripping on projector again, find an old piece of cardboard, pounce pattern, by hand with wheel pounce, I never had an eletric one... turn over pattern, sand lightly, to open up holes, get substrate ready for pattern, lay down pattern, now what did I do with that Ponce Bag, oh here it is, it's white! Dammm Go find the right color powder paint, take off old stinky sock, fill sock with blue chalk, limp over to table start rubbing over pattern, gag a bit, take off pattern, check for visibility, frig! I don't have clear enough of an image, wipe down surface, re-pounce, and voilla.. I'm now ready to start painting.... then you have to find Brushes, only to find that they are hard as a rock, you forgot to oil them last night........

LOL, Neil! Yeah, I been there. Are you sure we weren't working in the same shop?! Man, people just don't know how to have fun these days.

Just yesterday after putting the final white "hot spots" on this chrome lettering, I fumbled a cup of thinned white 1 shot which landed at a perfect 45 degree angle towards the sign, flinging a nice random pattern of dots and runs onto this piece.
After a short burst of words not located in the Webster's dictionary, I managed to save it with some careful skilled wipes of mineral spirits!

I usually have one of those small disasters on every really nice project. Paint has some strange cosmo-magnetic attraction to finished masterpieces.

Nice brush work.

I remember one of my earliest sign projects back when I lettered 4x8's flat on my living room floor. I was on my hands and knees and turned to reach for something when my foot knocked over an entire quart of hunter green enamel paint on our then way cool 70's orange shag carpeting.

After an hour of cleaning the mess up with what else but gasoline the entire house reeked for days. Had to give up smoking in the house for a week. Why just the other day I cracked my monitor and spilled a half gig of pixels all over my desktop. Millions of those pesky little sqaure pieces of color to pick up.

Oh the trials and tribulations we must go through to learn this craft.

hahahahaha I love these stories!! I remember those Lettreset letter pages. I had billions of dollars worth it seemed. ha! And about spilling paint on your handpainted stuff... I sure did plenty of that too. If I did have pictures of my old handpainted stuff....you would most likely see a star or two where the boo boos were. Dang I was clumsy! Mark...once again....great job!
