I love looking at your work. I still think you should write a book on color harmony. Your use of color is awesome.
Have a Super day.-

Hi Chuck!, thank you, and nice to see you on here!
Terry and Amy, thanks also, and those are good questions. Ones I still struggle per job to answer for myself.
I've finally decided to throw caution to the wind and figure that if I can draw it ... it will come! hahahaaa
The ways I've gone about finding someone to build stuff has been to contact construction contractors and just ask. I called the ones who actually use me for their signs, and therefore, I already have a working relationship with them. They already have a clue of what I'm about, and what I'm asking.
However, they are usually too busy to want to get too involve in "just" a small sign "thing" ... so I've asked them for recommendations of workers or other specialized contractors/carpenters that they might know. The construction industry has a network of folks, for specific needs.
You'll be in for a bit of a ride with frustration. Things like folks acting gung-ho and then not calling you back with a price, or not showing up. It would be so much easier if they'd just say "no". Then there is the guy that anxiously says "he can do anything", only to show up with all the "that can't me done" and "that won't work" and stuff like that. I have made up my mind that those words are unacceptable, and that I'm looking for only "can do" attitudes with follow thru from here on out.
Slowly, I'm weeding out the "no-gos" and developing a network of reliable sources ... as best I can. Still, it also comes down to how I fit in their schedule too.
As far as knowing whether something I design can be constructed. Well, I have been developing a pretty good sense of construction. I bounce things off Dave quite abit, before I even approach anyone about a job. Many times I have some of the solutions worked out in my own head before I hire someone.
Ultimately, you are looking for someone who is willing to work with you, brainstorm solutions and alternatives with you, preferably someone who has a sense of pride in their work, and enthusiasm for the job at hand.
All ingredients that are very tough to find.
I still hold my breath tho, in hopes that the end result will look as I had intended it to. I think it's a toss of the dice. Communication is key, but not always successful, even when you think all stones have been turned. It's pretty amazing what kind of goof ups folks can throw into the mix. Some obviously careless ones.
I haven't mastered it, but I have gotten past the intimidation of going for it. With each job, I gain credibility.

Hey, keep going girl. You are getting better and better every day. You don't have to take a back seat to anyone with your design abilities.
You're getting a great education in that special school - "Hard Knocks University". But it is only making you a better craftsman (or ...woman, or person, or whatever is politically correct today).
And then that positive attitude and smile don't hurt either. You and Dan...just makes me want to throw up.

Chuck, I couldn't agrre more with you on Janette's use of color. She has been a big inspiration to me in that field. I've always done well picking the wild colors but the subdued ones always gave me fits. I've picked her brain to see where she comes up with those great combinations and I figured I'd get some special formula or something. Instead it was more like "well I've got these neat green slacks, ya know, and they look so good with this red sweater"
No lady , hey, really, I wasn't looking at your ass, I was just checking out your slacks, I was thinking of using that color combination on a truck I'm gonna stripe really, no , hey no, wait a minute, is that almond?
