Hello folks I am intersted in what your thoughts are on handling a transaction for a plotter. with somebody I dont know and selling because of bankruptcy. They are requesting western union for payment. then they will ship I'm a little leary about this and was wondering how some of you handled transactions like this to protect both buyer and seller? Thanks for the help.

Don't EVER, and I mean EVER, prepay something using Western Union. Once they got your money, you are out of luck.
I did it once (with a Letterville psuedo-merchant, no less) and got shipped my product seven weeks late. Then the guy had the f'ing nerve to scream and holler at me because I complained about the lack of service and no responses to any of my e-mails.
Trust me, I saw the "light" about this guy... I wonder if he knew about the 10 more I was going to order... Hmmmmm... obviously not. I guess the first 16 we ordered wasn't good enough. It's a shame.

Thanks for the responses, I wasnt sure how the Western Union thing would work. If you were buying used equipment how would you go about the transaction? I'm very leary about getting burned and I'm sure the seller probably is as well. I thing C.O.D. with a monry order or cashiers ceheck may do it. Thanks Again

I wouldn't buy any equipment I didn't see working. Call me a skeptic or whatever, but I don't believe any claims as to the condition of equipment.
You have to remember that they have a vested interest in selling the equipment. The fact that they are going through a bankruptcy makes my backside quiver a little bit, too. Are they legally able to sell this stuff or are you going to get a surprise letter in the mail demanding the return of the cutter and all.
There are way too many reputable equipment dealers around to be foofing around with this guy. Signwarehouse is an excellent and reputable dealer, as well as being a Letterville merchant, and will be able to find something to fit in your budget.
Dave and Roxanne Philips @ Graphic Resource Systems is another excellent dealer. We have bought over 35K worth of equipment from him over the last 8 years or so. His website has all the stuff he sells and has his contact information. Roxanne is also one of the most computer knowledgable people I know. GRS will do very well by you.
Have a great one!
