Here is a sign we are doing for a the owner of a Stud Horse. The sign will be Double faced, three feet by four, from 3/4 mdo, the horse will be digitally printed..
This link may not work, as I am arguing with the ftp server, but if it does tell me what you think!

I really like the concept ... only a few things "I" would tweak.
The shadows going in different directions ... no,no,no
because the phone # panel kinda' cuts off legacy's shadow, to me, it kind of rides on top (without a shadow), where I think you want legacy to be ... so I would maybe drop legacy down a bit into/over the panel
that huge outline around the bottom panel (horse) just bugs me for some reason
what colors were you thinking? nice start

I think you need to lay down the rest of the colors too. My main critique is too many rhythms conflicting with one another. The curvature of your main panel with the slant of the script and the verticle lines intersecting with the horizontal layout of the phone number panel. Just too many complicated shapes fighting against one another. Simplify your relationships I guess is what Im trying to explain. Im not good at stating the problems as I am at seeing them.
But the general concept has potential for an awesome sign.

I get what you mean about bringing the script font down into the panel a bit...I might try that suggestion...as for the shadows, I don't see your issue there. If they were true shadows, of course they'd need to be the same. But here, the "shadow" is just a graphic element, and not "cast" at all, therefore the whole lightsource thing need not apply. It is balanced, and that is the important thing.

The colors are what they are gonna be. The customer is crazy about gray and silver (both the stock trailer, his truck and house are gray/silver.) So this is the colors as they will be rendered.
I don't see the competition issues your seein' Bob, or at the very least, I can't intuit what you are trying to say. B

Nice Layout, but I do agree with the other suggestions, since it is not a finished sign, why not put the shadows in the same direction, it is important, it is suppose to look real. If they were raised letters then the natural shadow would be in line with each other. Just my 2cents, And I know that the customer wants all grey and silver, so maybe not so much contrast with each other, maybe the lines in the panel could be a little more subtle, almost Ghostly, try it Tasmus you will like it.

So I'll throw my too sense in there... (yes, I meant to spell it that way)
Why is the phone number your primary focus?
I'd make "docs" a little bigger and put the horse's name more central and pushed out front, then drop the phone number on it's own panel below all this or integrate it somewhere else in the design.
I know you like the 'dots' between numbers, but to me (being a computer person) I always think IP address when I see them. I use to use a lot of point-down triangles to seperate phone numbers as I liked the way it looked, but then found out it was used by the gay community as some secret-handshake symbol... So you just never know what people will think.
I agree with the thoughts on shadowing, and that the outline on the horse area should be the same weight as the rest of your panel outline. Perhaps you could add a piece to the sign where the horse is to give it dimension.
It's a good design, nice font choices, good panel and flourishes. My only other concern would be how 'out of place' the full color horse looks compared to the B&W look of the shades-of-grey everything else. Since you've got to work with his already existing graphics, I realize your hands are tied and think you did a nice job with those confinements!

Now Tasmus don't get Angry at anyone cause the sign does look good, it's that all of a sudden everyone must be bored and want to critique, so here's another one..hehe... why not make the horse larger and scale down some of the text, I know it may be more exspensive, but it may look better, I also like the Idea of having the horse in a grayscale also, but then again it the horse was a little larger....

Barry Just a point of detail ,as all signs are read left to right it is generally recognised that any illustration or whatever be faced to the left to look optically correct
otherwise they appear to be looking away from the reader

I keep thinking the colors on the horse, especially the blue sky, seem to take over the whole sign, so I guess I would try to tone it down some in intensity, or render it in greyscale, as others have suggested.
Another idea...if you keep the horse in those colors, how would it look to pick up that blue color as a pinstripe arould the outer perimeter? It might balance the color a little better.
I like it........
