I made this for my parents this Christmas. The picture isn't great but you get the idea. HDU stage blast with latex and clear coat. I drew the trees with a sharpie and scanned them. I did the fades with my air brush. I'm learning!! Enjoy!

Very nice, Amy! I like the colors. I've never used the Grain Frame before . I carve my wood grain after blasting, but your way gives an even grain in comparison. I'll have to look intop that.

1. What size is it? The reason I ask is because I had a wholesaler blast a small sign for me in HDU and the grain was hardly defined. They said they used a Grain Frame but I wonder if it was a homemade one. Yours looks like I wanted mine to. I was told that's as good as it gets but I'm not convinced. The sign was about 10"x18"
The sign is 11.5" x 12.5" and I cleared it because I used the little bottles of craft paints like you can buy at Wal-Mart (Ceramcoat I think) and I didn't think they would last outdoors. My mom paints a lot of outdoor stuff with them but always clears them. I have one outside that looks like the day it was made and it's 11 years old and soft white pine!!
I tried making and using my own versions of a GrainFraim. I never got the results I wanted and it was always too loose which made using it a pain in the behind!
The trick is to use the GrainFraim the first time you blast it. It need to be flush with the sign as much as possible. You blast as deep as you want and then remove the GrainFraim and go back over it until you have the depth you want and to take the sharpness off. That's it!
I used to blast and then try to do the grain and it always looked bad. When I bought the actual GrainFraim and read the directions I learned!!
Hope that helps!
