Guy came in week ago with my card. I remembered him because a builder I met on the same jobsite did a lot of remodle stuff at my shop 2 years ago, & said this was they guy to see for electrical. I hadn't seen him in 2 years, but he was tellin' me he knew when he got my card he was going to keep it. Said it was that cool looking, if he never needed signs he'd still keep it 'cause it's cool. If he did need signs he'd see me.
So with that intro, he showed me the most basic design on his card & said that's what he wants on his truck nothing fancy. Took about 30 seconds to get that he'd happily throw another $100 in for a better design & $150 pair of doors was great but if it goes up another $100 (or 2), no worries, long as it looks good.
Can't argue with that being the kind of customer we could all use more of. So, anyway I don't want to let him down. Here's my first two designs. He hasn't seen them yet as I did them today, but figured I'd post them for critiques. Goes on a burgundy Truck with some silver metallic areas as well.

The first design looks good...the lightening bolt in the second tends to lead the eye away from the graphic, also the design has to many different curves...

I like where your going with it, but my biggest pet peeve in the world is the word "PHONE" it kills me every time i see it taking up space on a sign...
I think by now most people know what those 7 (or 9) numbers are for...
just my 7 cents worth...

I like the first one much better too. I was asked to have a lightning bolt. That is all this client ever had for a logo & also he had text in an arc on his black & white business card. I did manage to squeeze a "bolt" into #1, & think it worked OK.
#2 was just an effort to offer a layout built more around the look of his card.
Sometimes when I feel that one layout works so much better I wonder if I should even show both.
The client will finally see these later today & I'm half tempted to protect myself from the possibility of getting stuck doing the 2nd one.

He loved the first one, & then I showed him the second. If that was all I had i'm sure he would have loved it too, but he & his wife both picked the first anyway. Now on to production.

Hey Doug - they both look good - just a quick thought - that bottom one kinda reminds me of a hardhat - what if you made it a yellow construction hardhat - take the lightning bolts & make 'em striking the helmet from above - maybe 3 or 4 - but not touching the hardhat - then put his name inside the "helmet circle"; phone & license number below? uh - too late - they already chose I see - is this gonna be an Edge print?

Yeah, I see the hardhat idea now. I could picture that working too. Yes it was printed on the edge. As a last minute change the guy switched back to wanting a magnet instead of graphics right on the doors. The burgandy in nmy proofs is the color of his doors, but the truck is 2-tone with metallic silver as well. I put the design on a silver background & it actually added a nice touch.
