One day last week I walked past the zippo counter at wal mart and decided to pick one up and see what kinda damage I could do to it.
got it home and dug out the craftsman Flex Shaft tool, (kinda like a dremel, 30,000 RPM but more powerful motor) put in an engraving bit and went to town:

This particular model zippo appears to be powdercoated, or has some other nice matte finish on it, which is what I removed with the rotary tool then shot clear over the whole thing to keep the elements from the brass.
I showed one of my lady friends this lighter (she's a smoking/tobacco conisseur) and she offered to let me take her ex-husband's 400,000 RPM Paragraver off her hands - NO COST! (in return for a little work, of course)
