Thought I'd show you my design sketch of one sign in progress right now in my shop. Gets installed on Monday. This is the sign that Steve Shortreed painted the shadow on for me the other day. I will post a photo of the actual sign once it's installed.

Now if you can design a fun funeral parlor sign... what a twist on the way we have always perceived these people.
I like the sign!

I really dig the mixing of upper and lower case lettering. Doesn't always work, but in this layout, it works perfectly. Another Janette Balogh masterpiece.

The sign did not get installed today. The owner is having his office tented this week, and wants to hold off till next Monday.
Terry, the pineapple is not separate. I proposed this job as a flat painted/vinyl sign, and as a dimensional sandblasted sign. I also threw in the option of a flat sign, with a carved pineapple element. I originally gave two shapes of signs to choose from too. Gold leaf was another option I outlined for them.
They opted for the least expensive ... but it'll still look good. I've painted the pineapple (and star) with gradient blends ... as shown in the sketch. Also, the finials will end up being round balls. (we are using the existing posts on site.)
Robin, I did this sketch entirely in Corel 9.
Thanks again! Will get pic of the "real deal" once it's up.

You have such a delightful way of promoting your clients. It's a pleasure to see your projects!
This one is lovely!
Nettie, I wonder, do you take digital pics of the "before" situations and then insert the "new-improved" signage ideas? Seems it would save time drawing things around them and give the client a more accurate view of what they were getting. (Scenery-wise) Does that make sense?
Also it helps educate the buyer in topics like distance, readability, etc.
I was just curious what you thought on the idea.

Nice work Janette. That job should net you more work nearby. Usually it will wake up the neighboring businesses. In just one year I have sold 5 signs in one unusual neighborhood, after installing one kool one.

Thanks again! The customer was happy with it. Whew, another job off the list without a hitch!
I showed this customer two different layouts. It took some time for this dentist to decide on this livlier version ... though his wife loved it. On the other one, the font was more rigid, and he actually leaned towards it more because he thought it would present a more "professional" appeal. Us gals were able to convince him to loosen up abit with it.
Linda, I have only had my digital camera a short while, but I'm discovering a multitude of uses for it. I do think I'll be using it to present a sign in it's own setting. Just learning how to do that. I'm in the midst of laying out an old antique mailbox. (the big kind that sits on street corners) I took photos of all 4 sides, and I'm actually designing on it right now. Works pretty well and very handy to see what something will look like beforehand.
Jack, ironically it was another sign of mine in the neighborhood that sold me this job. There is quite a collection developing on this block now. I had actually also done the sign for the folks that owned the business that leased in this building before the dentist too. (although they hadn't known that before they called me) Here a pic of the previous sign that hung on these very posts before. The graphic at the top is a hand painted rendering of the building as it looked then. Rose Cottage
It's so very true that signs do sell more signs! All the more important to leave a lasting impression eh?
The key is to make "word of mouth" work in our favour!
