Here is a design we just did for a long time customer. They haven't really had a logo and decided that it was time.
Thanks for letting us share!
Have a great one!

aw man, that woulda looked so kewl if you could have spelled mid river with the dark blue waves!
You coulda turned the boat at a slant to match and to balance the fact that the boat and the M were to the left.
It looks great the way it is, but the head on is so intense, I have to struggle to pull away to read the rest of it. Sompn about a giant boat speedin at ya! Hahaha!

I like it a lot. I personally would have left out the sun. For some reason my eyes are seeing it as being put on last minute.
I apologize if I sound like I'm flaming you, I think it looks terrific!
Keep 'em coming, you're work is always an inspiration to me to strive for that quality.

My only observation is the word marina sort of gets lost to me…
Might you considered making it capitals, white, keeping the wide kernelling and putting it in a black band roughly 1 ½ the width of the letter “I” in mid river and as long as the word mid river? Sort of an underline for mid river, tying marina to it? But hey… I’m just a rookie!!!!
Just curious, how much iteration did you go through to arrive at the logo to this level??
Keep on posting your great stuff! And thanks for sharing!

One thing I've noticed about all your work is a really great use of contrast in line value - not just in the copy, but in the artwork too. More great work, Bruce!

Don't ya just love doing logo work? I love it for it's simplicity, their are far to many people using every special effect in the book to over work logos and design, and I know I've been guilty of this also. Great work Bruce!

Thank you for the kind words, observations, and opinions...
Linda... My first impulse was to spell out the name using the "M" of the waves. Unfortunately, the design got too bulky and very horizontal for my liking. Horizontal logos are hard to deal with because the don't fit in a lot of situations. I had worked on a boat on an angle but in doing that, it was necessary to change the perspective of the wake and that lost the "M" I was trying to focus on. I really think that the head on gives the design movement. It does have a "right at ya in your face" look which is exactly where I wanted it to go.
Nettie... the waves are "beefy" because it is really an M being divided by the boat. when I thinned out the waves, I started to lose the "M" and that was the whole focus behind that train of thought. I like the beefiness of the name, also. Who says you can't use helvetica styles effectively? LOL! I really do like the sun, though...
John... The sun really wasn't an afterthought. If you look, you can see that I had allowed space in the clouds on the left for space for the sun. Hey, you got to have sun when you are out boating. eh? Happy, happy clouds with a shining sun... I think I watched too mush PBS when I was younger... LOL! Love the name of your shop b/t/w...
Joe... I had a reverse panel under MidRiver originally and in caps, too. It really made the design bottom heavy and drew the focus away from the name and the M wave. I used lower case on "marina" because I really didn't like the negative space created by the uppercase A.
Joey, thanks for the insight, brother!
My original intent was to have a very heavy M with a boat in the upper crotch of it. The more I sketched it out, the wake idea started coming to me and i just took it from there. I had just about an hour into the thumbnails, two hours into the main design on the computer, and and hour into tweaking. This was accomplished over several days. i like to let an idea set for a bit and come back to it to see if it was really as good as i originally thought or if i was just fooling myself...
Some designs fall into place and some you really have to work at. This one came easily. I think it was the 15 year realationship we have with this client that made it easy for me. I understand who they are and what they do.
Again, thanks for all your kind words. it is very much appreciated.
Have a great one!
