Any tips on removing some painted window lettering? It has 2 colors with a clear painted around the edges(maybe over all). I am going to replace with vinyl graphics.

Thanks!

The key is a very sharp razor blade and some windex to keep the blade lubricated.
Really soak the paint with the windex and scrape from the edges, don't try to start in the middle. If it's still too hard you could buy some paint stripper from the hardware store, like StryptEez or something. That's nasty stuff though so have some water on hand to wash your hands, it burns! I usually spray the paint down to get it wet, apply the stripper, let it sit a couple minutes, get it wet again and then srape it.
If it starts easy, but gets harder change your blade. I've seen people sprain their back trying not to "waste" a 3 cent razor blade.
Hope that helps.

Alan, if the razor blade doesn't get it, try greased lightning available at lowe's for about $7.00 per gallon. It won't be as hard on the hands and will desolve most paints. Like the above mentioned product, allow it to soak untill it softens the paint, then scrape effortlessly with the blade. It is not a paint remover and will be found in the cleaning products section. It doesn't work on all paint, but is so easy that it is worth a try. It will not burn skin like paint removers and oven cleaner.

Thanks for the quick reply!!

I still have scars from an Oven cleaner burn I got during a vehicle job 3 years ago, so I'll try the Greased Lightning first...

Hi,
I am wondering if there is a backup white that will come off easier than latex paint. Whitewash?
Is Richart good enough without a white pad?

Just did one last week,.........
Use regular ol paint stripper from hardware store and rubber gloves.........and you won't hardly even need a razor blade. The paint will just curl up.

I vote for the lightning stuff Kathy said. Had a friend power wash his trailer with it a couple weeks ago and it started to take the paint off that.

Never tried it on painted windows, but Greased Lightning is some awesome stuff. Like Chris said, clean the paint right off your trailor if ya want it too! HE HE HE! Works on laundry also.

Jerry
I like a good opaque surface for my window splashes so I usually do 2 coats of white latex. A lot of the Christmas only painters just put rich art straight on the glass, but I think it looks kinda cheezy.
Another good idea is to make friends with a good window cleaner and refer or sub the work to them. I have a guy in my area that hands out my number all the time because he likes the way my work scrapes off clean without running all over the place and making a mess.
