Customer wanted me to decorate his huge 38' semi tow truck. This photo doesn't show just how big this thing is. Fully reflective graphics, and yep, I know it's a little too much. I used about 30' 24" white, 30' 24" blue, 30' 24" red, 45' 15" yellow. The sleeper was covered with rivets. The body was smooth fiberglass. Worked off and on this week, really not sure of hours labor, maybe as much as 25 hours.

The picture angle and quality isn't great, just a last minute idea.

Anyone have a clue?

Thanks,
Tim Borden

thats 3 days......how much do you get an hour? @ $5 an hour its $125, @ $50 an hour its $1250.00.
reflective vinyl aint cheap or easy to cut.... so add at least $15 sq. ft. for all the vinyl you used...$3600......figure somewhere between $4000-$5000....................

How much?

Hmmmmmmm... I think $3,265,000.27 sounds good. Hey, I want to retire this week, OK?

Seriously... Time + Material + Markup + Profit = Selling price. You might consider figuring out a price in advance next time. Customers don't like surprises.

Have a great one!

I didn't make that very clear. I gave him a quote. I really was just wondering what someone else would charge.

Here's where I get stupid. I don't always go by cost. Yes, I'll cover the cost plus profit, but for me, it's more of a "what's it worth". If I can make a reasonable profit on a job at $500, but it's worth $700, I'm charging $700. Not ripping anyone off (customer or my family). To me, if I cut a price, I'm hurting the sign industry. It seems like very time a new sign business starts up here, the first thing they do is cut prices. I guess this is a natural reaction, just trying to drum up some business. I have to really fight the urge to match prices. They usually put themselves out of business. A sigh of relief, then another guy starts up and we go through the same cycle.

Probably not real smart on my part.

Thanks,
Tim

Tim,

It _is_ smart on your part. It's people who have your attitude, and who insist on a fair price for a day's work, that will keep this industry aloft.

Don't back down!

After many attempts and even joining Yahoo, I could not get to your photo.
