Just wanted to take some time to reflect on the meet now that we've pretty much cleaned up around the shop and we're getting back to normal. We had great weather for about 95% of the meet... low humidity and sunshine. We had quite a list of projects to complete and we were probably just over 90% complete there as well, with only minor work left on one 10' x 20 panel job that we have to install, another 16 x 20 billboard promoting Chippewa Falls (thanks Brian Truesdale for your hard work on this one) that we have to replace on existing panels on just outside of town.
Inside the brewery, Brian from BT Design and Mike from Vital Signs did a heck of a job lettering a Leinie's logo in the brewhouse up on some ladder jacks and planks. I have to finish up about two hours work lettering some information about the brew kettles adjacent to the work Brian and Mike did, and that job's a wrap.
The gold leaf (on vinyl) fire truck lettering done by Barb and Maris Schilling was completed and turned out nice as they had an on-going demonstration throughout the meet and only the install remains on that job.
Both of the wall jobs were completed and looked superb! Mike Meyer, Andy and Laurie Goretski from Tomahawk, WI,(hope I get all of your last names right, I'm at home typing this without my registration info)and Matt Rolli from Hudson spent a good deal of their time on the Bischel Meats wall. The Leinie's wall on the Town Pump was a collaboration of many, but I recall Dale Manor and Richard "DJ" Capra both from Menomonie, WI, Kevin Doehrmann of Iowa, Dirk "Stub" Johnson of Eau Claire, Dale Petri and Al Joppe both from the Green Bay area, and a couple of the guys from the Minnesota State Fair sign shop working on it on Saturday a bit as well. The town is absolutely just buzzing about the two highly visible wall jobs!
One of the more challenging jobs was working on a very detailed 10 x 20 sign on panels in our shop. Alot of people helped with this one, and thanks to Mark Lebo and crew from Hudson, WI and the Schillings for taking leadership roles on this project. The great part of it is that it was a project that even the kids could get in on and help with the lettering. Alot of people who normally woudn't paint were able to chip in and learn on this including Colleen and Judy from Canada, and my nephew Scott.
Our other demonstration leaders including Dick Bohrer (glass etching) and Craig Place (airbrush) were busy the entire meet showing people their tricks of the trade. Jeremy Vecoli wowed the crowd with his amazing airbrush action too! Mike Meyer gave a sincere but humorous demonstration about hand lettering under the big tent, all the while wearing his popcorn and paint coated slippers that he received as a gift on behalf of Chippewa Falls... it's a funny story, ask Mike about the slippers.
Dave "The Letterman" spearheaded the panel jam area and pulled some cool pinstriping lines along with the help of BT Brian. Alot of kids got into striping including both of my kids (7 and 11) who had never touched lettering enamel before. Karrie and Dawn from Michigan vowed to just relax the weekend but found themselves painting some monotonous pine trees on some signs for the Fairgrounds that we were doing in trade for use of their facilities. Thanks to Tom Mahoney from Omaha, NE for pitching in on that project too. I think Dave may have roped the crew from Vital Signs in on that project too? Thank you!
Thanks very much to Midwest Sign and Screen Printing Supply from St. Paul, MN for donating so much material and manpower along with your blast booth and samples that you acquired through various manufacturers. Thanks to N. Glantz and Son too for lining up some paint products from One-Shot and for providing some other goodies.
Thanks also to our local sponsors for making this meet possible including Jim Schuh from Chippewa Falls Mainstreet Inc, Leinenkugel's, Northwestern Bank, Mason Shoe, and Kell Container.
My family helped prepare a ton of different tasks for this meet, and my wife Natalie's parents busted butt in the kitchen for days to get the food prepared... thank you!
So far, in the lost and found dept... we have one black plastic set of saw horses, one small brown wooden stool, and one silver and white Coleman cooler left at the shop, so call and claim 'em. We will ship the door prizes to those who won something that were not present for the door prize drawing.
We had just over 80 painters, spouses, kids and helpers at the meet. Thanks again to all of you for coming and taking such good care of our shop and equipment and for respecting and enjoying our city.
I hope I didn't forget anyone or any important details......
