HELP!!! Theres a big black weeding monster in my trash can....and it's getting BIGGER by the minute! I just had to put a pix of this big blob of vinyl up. We didn't take a good look at it until it got this big and then we started laughing. The link is to the pix at Rogers Rapidtac forum.

I have seen some vinyl piles like this too, I am sure we all have. When a customer sees me doing this I get something like... " you cant re use that?".... "seems like you throw away more than you use"... "that stuff recyclable?"
It gets me wondering and maybe Ken from Oracal can help.... is this stuff recycleable? can we send it back, you can melt it down and make more vinyl? will ya gice us a nickel a pound like the metal recyclers?
One thing I have done is when the scrap pile gets to big and you seem to have a bunch of small pieces of un-used vinyl.... dont throw away the scraps, fill up a garbage bag and bring it to the local school's art class for make your own stickers day! the teachers love it and the kids make some cool stuff with sicssors and stuff.

It reminds me of the left over pizza dough we used to have years ago when we made it fresh as we need it. At the end of the night, there would always be this big huge, rising doughball growing on the table. We used to make things out of it and cook them so it would hold shape. We made hands, feet, heads and other stuff I dare not mention. Then we would leave them sitting somewhere like outside a 24 hour grocery and watch as folks looked at it trying to figure ot if it was real or not. We even used to make skeets out of it to shoot at sometimes. Man what we do when were younger.

Captain Ken makes a good point. Is this stuff recycleable? I love to have big piles like that when a customer complains about the cost of a vinyl job. We do a lot of jobs for the forest service and such where the customer installs the stuff themselves. Just once I'd like to cut the lettering and not weed it and mask it. When they complain I would just tell them, you paid for "ALL" of the vinyl so you do with it what you want. HA HA. Customers have no clue of what is really involved even in a simple vinyl job. Oh well. Let me know if anyone finds some one to buy scrap vinyl. I even take a penny a pound. We also do as Ken does with unused scraps that are still on the backing. We take them to the schools or the local church thrift shop. Kids and craft people love those small scraps for craft projects.

Love your "monster". When I cleaned out my dad's studio I found all kinds of Scotchcal (remember that stuff!?!?!) and Letraset that I brought home for my 5 year old to play with and make stickers with. Not sure why but there's nothing kids like more than stickers.
