Normally, I glue up sheets of HDU with PVC or metal sandwiched in between the sheets with expanding polyurethane glue. Today, I needed a 3' x 4' double sided blank that could NOT be thicker than 1.5".... sooooooooo...... I wanted to try something new. I had a roll of hardware cloth (the real stiff screen with 1/4" or 1/2" square holes). This was 1/4". I cut it to size 1/2" smaller than all sides and glued it in between two 3/4" sheets that are cut 1/4" larger on all sides. To me, two pieces are extremely stiff when glued up like this. Stiffeners only make it stronger. I have about 200 pounds of lead blocks in the shop to weight down the middle and all sides while the glue slooooooowly oozes out. Then, cut to size and you are good to go!!!! I guess you might say this is the same technique used in safety glass with the wire in the center. I will post the update after sandblasting and let you know how it works.
